| - Bible Study- Weird isn't it that in a anime dealing with futuristic gunslingers on a desert planet would involve the Bible of all things. In fact there are numerous references made through use of symbolism or the actions of the characters. Below is a list of such occurrences and how they relate to the bible. Here are some of my conclusions. - The Green Apple This green apple is the symbol of an unreachable goal in which only by surpassing your obstacles and your hesitation will you obtain it (Chapel continuously taunts Wolfwood in a sense throughout his life). This apple can also be connect to the apple by which the serpent tempts Eve to take the apple, in the garden of Eden (Genesis) However not necessarily, the entire meaning behind this object is that unless Wolfwood can overcome his past and his fear in failure will he be able to obtain this. Throughout his life Wolfwood is tormented with the thoughts of his failure. Wolfwood eventually achieves this apple however when he confronts his past. - The Cross Wolfwood's character carries a "cross" which is really a variety of guns. However this has much more importance, before he was nailed to the cross, Jesus had to carry it as his burden until he got to the hill where he would die. Now this does not infer that Wolfwood is anything like Jesus, however the symbolism behind the burden which must be carried is important. It can also be the self inflicted burden that Wolfwood placed upon himself when he went on his journey to correct his past, it is the symbol of his battle, and coincidentally it Wolfwood brings the cross to his death scene in the church as his final burden just as Jesus did (this is not putting him on the same level as Jesus once again note the connection however). Wolfwood actually passes on the cross through Milly to Vash and then Vash must carry the cross as his burden to the spot where he had to confront Knives, his brother, in the final episode. It is interesting that Vash placed the cross in the ground before Knives when he met up with him, and it is also interesting that this cross saves Vash in his final confrontation. -Rem's Ideology Perhaps one of the most obvious is Rem's ideology which Vash lives by that "No one has the right to take another's life". That's not exactly what she said however note that this is actually one of the TEN COMMANDMENTS (' Thou Shall Not Kill ') -Project Seed and Noah's Arc Due to Earth's lack of supplies and the human races foolishness in its usage, Project Seed was developed to bring humanity a new home. This is similar to Noah and the Arc when the Earth was cleansed and made anew, and coincidentally they are searching for another EARTH-Like Clean World. There are however differences which are obvious. |
