Josh Hartnett was born Joshua Daniel Hartnett on July 21, 1978 in San Francisco, CA. He was the first born in his family along with four other siblings. Despite being born in California, Josh was raised in St. Paul, Minnisota.

Josh began his schooling at Nativity of Our Lord School and then progressed to Creitin Derham Hall. In high school, Josh was a great football player and aspired to become a pro. However, those dreams were crushed when he tore a ligament in his foot. It was at this point when he turned his sights to the stage.

During his years at South High School, Josh worked at a video shop. It was this job that helped him to fall in love with the movies. Josh's dad also helped him in his steps to become an actor. When his dad found out about his son's aspirations, he sat him down to watch som old movies. In fact, all of his family helped a little. Josh's aunt helped him too by telling him to got him to audition for an acting company. By the time he had graduated high school in 1996, he had performed in several local productions and a few national commercials. Then, he chose to attend SUNY to further his acting career, only to have his hopes crushed when he was kicked out for protesting its policies. It was at this point he moved to California to really start his acting career.

After landing roles in the TV series "Cracker," Halloween H2O and The Faculty, his career took off, leading him to where he is today. He's now a leading actor in Hollywood with several nominations and an award. The award he won was the Best Breakthrough Performance in the Teen Choice Awards in 2001. Throughout the years, he's also been nominated five other awards of a great variety.
