Viggo Peter Mortensen was born on October 20th, 1958 in Manhattan, NY. His Danish father and American mother made him what he is today. Viggo spent his early childhood in Manhattan, but he also lived for several years in Venezuela, Argentina, and Denmark. From this, he now can speak fluent Danish, English, and Spanish. He also speaks a little French.

He first began acting in New York, studying with Warren Robertson. At this time he appeared in many plays and movies and finally, his performance in "Bent" earned him a Drama-logue Critic's Award.

As if being an actor is not enough, Viggo is an accomplished poet, photographer, painter, and formost a father.

Mr. Mortensen is very devoted to his son Henry. In fact, he will make sure that in all the filming contracts he signs that there is a stipulation that they will not film on Halloween...the holiday he always spends with his son. Also, because of his devotion he almost didn't take the role of Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Fortunately for us, he son talked him into it. Without him in that role, the Lord of the Rings just wouldn't be the same.
