I. Introduction
Welcome to Dark Cloud Gaming Tips, this document has all the information I have picked up while playing the game.
Everything was experienced first-hand and has worked in MY experiences. For example, in the General Tips section, I posted
the best tips that worked for me, I have used ALL of the Best Weapon Paths, I wrote the Boss Strategies while I was facing
each boss, and I went back to each town to write all the building requests. I will try to update this at least weekly to
make it the best site possible. This site was created in and best viewed in 1024 x 768. Please remember that I am learning
HTML and arent very good at it, but as time goes on, I'll get better and so will this site.
On a final note, any and all input is welcome, if there is a General Tip that you would like to share, I would love to hear
it and I will give you full credit for it. Send questions and comments to
[email protected].
To submit to the General Tip section, write an email with subject "General Tip Submission" to the same address. I will read
each email and tip submission and they are subject to my aprooval, please no vague tips such as "Go to the place with the
thing to do that other thing...... etc." and please give them a short, descriptive title.

II. Updates Section
Sunday, December 15, 2002 - Good news for all you Dark Cloud Fans out there! A few things have happened recently that will make me decide to maintain this site a little more:
1) I broke my collarbone, so nothing but rest, relaxation, and some intense videogaming action.
2) I got so sick of Final Fantasy X (its a great game, but I beat it through and through) that I want to pick Dark Cloud up again.
3) Christmas Vacation is coming up, and I have nowhere to go!
4) My best friend bought Dark Cloud and has sparked my interest in it once again.
5) Alot of people have been visiting the site and have signed my Guestbook (hint hint), so it seems that SOME people want to see this site.
6) There really is no sixth reason, but I wanted to get to seven ^_^
7) This gives me something to do instead of homework, even though I'm a pretty good student.
So there you have it! As of right now, I'll be maintaining the site until I get sick of it again!
Thursday, March 7, 2002 - Oh boy. I havent done anything on this site for several months now and I really dont plan on maintaining it. I wont do the remeining two city maps, but I will describe and walk through my cities with anyone who emails me. I dont really play the game anymore, but I turned it on the other day just to beat the Demon Shaft boss. If anybody out there needs info on the game, or strategies on bosses, or any help in any form, email me and I'll respond in anywhere from a few hours to a few days to a few weeks. I'm sorry if I'm screwing anyone over but this game really doesnt appeal to me after a couple hundred dungeon levels. If anyone is wondering, I had played the game a few times and maxed out everybodys superweapons and defeated the Demon Shaft boss. I've done everything possible in the game.
IF ENOUGH PEOPLE CARE ABOUT STILL GETTING HINTS AND STRATEGIES AND SIGN MY GUESTBOOK AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS SITE, I MAY MAINTAIN IT. OTHERWISE I MAY JUST LEAVE IT ON THE INTERNET AND NEVER LOOK AT IT AGAIN.
Thursday, August 9, 2001 - On level 66 in the Demon Shaft. I loaded Adobe Photoshop on my Mac and im making my own "banners", i have 3 that I willl shitch between every so often. I decided that I would do the entire Demon Shaft Section when I have all the information and I have defeated the boss, so dont expect any updates there for a while. -
Tuesday, August 7, 2001 - On level 44 of the Demon Shaft, and finished the first 11 floors of data in the Demon Shaft Section. -
Monday, August 6, 2001 - I have just maxed out my Chronicle Sword and my Secret Armlet. I'll be concentrating almost completely on Demon Shaft now, in addition to the Monsters and weaknesses, ill do the same for each back floor too. That will be done after I have completed the Boss Strategy. And I started the Queens City Map, I could do it in an hour, but they are pretty agrivating. -
Sunday, August 5, 2001 - Cleaning up the site, looking for new cool stuff to add. Slowly working on the Demon Shaft Section, itll come along. -
Friday, August 3, 2001 - Working on Muska Racka City Map, added Fishing Tips Section, and made a few updates on various Sections. Whew! -
Thursday, July 26, 2001 - I beat the Gallery of Time on tuesday, but my internet was down and I couldn't update. I added some Best Weapon Path Notes and the Item Tips and Info Section, which includes all the Gems and the stats they raise. I'm currently working on Demon Shaft, the 99 floors of Hell you get to play in after beating the Dark Genie. I added the Gallery of Time Boss Strategy too. Soon to come --> Demon Shaft Tips-
Monday, July 23, 2001 - Made a few small touch ups to the site. And I just beat Minotaur Joe with my new Chronicle Sword, 3 hits and he was down for the count. I'll be adding the new sections this week.
Saturday, July 21, 2001 - At Queens, Layer 9. I had a Choora+19 for Masterutan, it took 2 hits =P. I'm aquriring quite an extensive "To Do" List, and it looks a little like this : (not necessarily in this order)
-Gallery of Time Boss Strategy
-Best Weapon Path Notes
-Links Section
-Weapon Info Section
-City Maps
-Banner
-Item Info Section
-Fishing Info Section
I havent any idea on when I'll get this all done, but I'm hoping it be soon. -
Friday, July 20, 2001 - Finally bought a new memory card, and I'm at Dran, I just need to beef up my weps. I'll be adding a Links Section soon, along with a Weapon Info Section, plus I'm getting a friend of mine too make me a banner. Cool, eh? -
Thrusday, July 19, 2001 - Today I might be able to get my paycheck today to buy a new memory card. I looked at my calendar and saw that next week I have nothing going on so I can get some major gaming in. I'm also working on the Muska Racka City Map. I'll do Queens after that, and then Matataki Village.
Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - My little cousins came to visit and broke my PS2, AND cut open my memory card with my best game on it. I guess it will be a while until I'll update again. See ya in a week or so.-
Monday, July 16, 2001 - Just posted the site! Gonna fix it up as soon as possible. Seems that I only notice the
bad things when theres pressure. Almost finished the game, on floor 19 - Gallery of Time.-

III. General Tips
-BEST ABS SPOT : Wise Owl Forest, Level 10 Back Floor - Get a bunch of supplies (water, food, repair powder, attachments),
and go kick Werewolf ass! They give 24 ABS without AbsUp, plus, they are very easy to beat (only 180 HP), so long as you dont get hit!
-SYNTHSPHERES : Always remember that synthspheres only seal 60% of a weapons stats and will end up being weaker than
the weapon you started out with, so be very careful on which weapon you want to stick with. See "Best Weapon Paths" to see
how to evolve weapons to the best weapon possible.
-GALLERY OF TIME TIPS : FIRST, make sure that Toan has one helluva sword - if you dont have one now, this dungeon will be VERY unpleasant. SECOND, on the 19th floor, Xiao will be summoned. And on the 20th floor, Goro. And on the 21st floor, Ruby. And on the 22nd floor, Ungaga. And on the 23rd floor, (you guessed it) Osmond. Hopefully you noticed the subtle pattern the dungeon leaves, so make sure you have either kick ass weapons for them, or a VERY powerful synthsphere with high stats.THIRD, Please remember that this is DARK HEAVEN CASTLE, and it MIGHT have a FEW monsters that are a LITTLE weak to Holy.
So make sure that your Holy stat is high. (Sarcasm in the last two sentences was layed on pretty thick and should be noted)
-QUEENS DUNGEON TIPS : It is always a good idea to have your Holy stat high, but it really counts in this dungeon. There are several undead and evil monsters that are weak against Holy, so get that stat up! Also, many people wonder what the music box on the last layer is for. On your map, it shows it as the exit, and it has a keyhole. Can't find the key? Just go to the Divining House and (gulp) get your fortune told - Select the first option, then a new third option will appear. As many of the villagers suspected, it has something to do with Rando. I wont give it away, but it will show you where the key is, and the key only apppears after you select the third option. After you get the key, take it to the music box, but before you use it, make sure you are ready for a boss fight (see Boss Strategies - Ice Queen La Saia).
-MUSKA RACKA POLE GUARDIANS : If you plan on completing Muska Racka, requests and all, then you were probably stumped on what
is with the "Pole Guardians" that everyone wants. If you have all the peices to the village, put together the three totem
poles and place them in the empty village. Notice the 3 distinct heads? they match the mini-totem poles on the vilagers houses. Here's the hard part (oh boy), place all the houses and poles and just match which person belongs to which pole, then place the Prisoner Cabin, Cheif's House, and 3Sisters House in there general desired places, then places the poles in the middle and start to line up the houses. This is not as easy sa it sounds because one house you might have missed is the house that the village had to start with. Yes, you have to line that up too.
Here's a picture of my Muska Racka arrangement.
-BEST BACK ROOM FLOORS : If you end up having too many Back Room Keys and dont know which floor to use them on, look not further! Heres a small guide of which dungeon uses what keys and where to best use the keys:
(Dungeon Name) : (Back Floor Key), (Best Floor) - (Monsters)
Divine Beast Cave : Tram Oil, 9th Floor, - ??????
Wise Owl Forest : Sun Dew, 10th Floor, - Werewolves
Shipwreck : Flapping Fish, 17th Floor, - Corcea, Captain, Pirates Chariot
Sun & Moon Temple : Secret Path Key, 14th Floor, - Mummy
Moon Sea - Bravery Launch, ????????, - ?????
Gallery of Time : ?????, ????? - ?????
Demon Shaft : Crystal Eyeball, ???????, - ?????
Notes: Flapping Fish need Ice Blocks for them to stay fresh, or they will rot.
I Havent Found the Best Floor for Divine Beast Cave because I havent gotten enough Tram Oil's
Iv'e only gotten one Bravery Launch for Moon Sea and I havent used it yet.
I don't know what the Gallery of Time's Back Floor Key is, email me if you know what it is.
-DEMON SHAFT : To get access to the hardest dungeon in the game, you must first defeat the Dark Genie in the Gallery of Time. After the credits roll and the screen shows "The End", press [X] and a message will appear telling you that a new area is on your world map, then gives you an opporotunity to save. When you go back to the game, a tall building will be between Norune Village and Dark Heaven Castle - The Demon Shaft. See the Demon Shaft Guide for complete coverage.
-CHARACTER STATS : When you get Fruits of Eden and Gourds (items that increase character Hp and Thirst), you may wonder who to use them on. Get Toan up to 170hp (his max) and Xiao and Ruby up around 150hp, divide the rest between Goro, Osmond, and Ungaga, but give the most to Goro, then Osmond, then Ungaga.
The Same pattern should be used with Thirst and Gourds.
[Table of Contents]
IV. Best Weapon Paths
NOTE : All these start from a weapon that was sometimes difficult to get, for example, I got my first Javelin in the Gallery of Time, but I got my Frozen Tuna from rebuilding Gob's House in Matataki Village, and I bought my Snail for Osmond. I have seen the max stats for all these weapon, and these paths will have you ending up with the BEST weapons in the later stages of the game. If you get a weapon that is in the middle of the list, by all means, USE IT! But I suggest taking your current weapon and turning it into a synthsphere to add to the power of the new weapon.
Toan : This is probably the most important path to take because the Chronicle Sword makes the game SOOOO much easier,
I have it and it ALWAYS does 700+ damage. One of the harder paths, but ensures easier gaming in later stages.
Gladius -> Chopper -> Choora -> Maneater -> Atlamillia Sword -> Chronicle Sword -?-> Chronicle2
Xiao : This path is hard in the beginning because of Xiao's weak weapons, but from Divine Beast Title on, these weapons kick major ass.
Bandit Slingshot -> Double Impact -> Divine Beast Title -> Angel Shooter -> Angel Gear
Goro : Another Path that is hard to start but gets easier as it goes along. Using Goro is more fun when he has speen adn attack.
Frozen Tuna -> Turtle Shell -> Battle Ax -> Satan's Ax -> Inferno
Ruby : Very hard to start out with but is quite powerful once you get to Athena's Armlet. It doesnt take so long if you just keep pouring in gems.
Platinum Ring -> Crystal Ring -> Goddess Ring -> Athena's Armlet -> Secret Armlet
Ungaga : VERY Difficult because Ungaga's weapons are unbearably weak until you get to Babel's Spear. Gems, Gems, Gems, Gems, GEMS!!
Javelin -> De Sanga -> Cactus -> Terra Sword -> Babel's Spear
Osmond : Buy the Snail for Osmond in Yellow Drops and 2 Jackals, have the Snail absorb the Jackals and then just put Gems in it. Supernova Rocks!
Snail -> Hexa Blaster -> Supernova
Note : The Chronicle2 is a sword that is obtained after beating the Demon Shaft Boss. If you have a Chronicle Sword that has maxed out stats in everything, and you turn it into a SynthSphere and the Chronicle2 absorbs it, the Chronicle2 will be completely maxed out too.

V. Boss Strategies
DIVINE BEAST CAVE BOSS : Divine Beast Dran
Useful Items : Drans Feather x3, Bread x5, Reg. Water x3, Repair Powder
How to Beat : The key is to stay along the outside where the ground cannot be destroyed by Dran's fireballs. Just run around
the outside as Xiao and shoot him once with the slingshot, then switch to Toan and use Drans Feather to dash up to wherever
Dran lands after being shot and slash him ONCE. Repeat this pattern to defeat Dran. Afterwards when you complete construction
of Norune Village and concede to the villagers requests, Dran will grant you the Whirlwind Slash for Toan.
WISE OWL FOREST BOSS : Forest Keeper Masterutan
Useful Items : Frozen Tuna, Drans Feather x3, Bread or Cheese x5, Tasty Water x3, Repair Powder
How to Beat : Weave around the outside using Drans feather, dodging Masterutans seed bullets. As Goro, run up to Masterutan
so he swings at you with his arms, dodge this attack then run in and smack his feet with Goro's weapon. When he sits down,
switch to Toan and swing at his head. Repeat this pattern and stay in close so he doesnt shoot you with seed bullets.
Afterwards when you complete construction of Matataki Village and concede to the villagers requests, Treant will give Goro
the Battle Ax.
SHIPWRECK BOSS : Ice Queen La Saia
Note : BEFORE YOU THINK ABOUT GOING TO FACE lA SAIA, MAKE SURE RUBY HAS FIRE POWER ON ONE OF HER RINGS
Useful Items : Anti-Freeze Amulet x1, Throbbing Cherry x5, Drans Feather x3, Cheese x5, Premium Water x4, Repair Powder
How to Beat : As soon as possible, Run up to La Saia and slash at he shield with Toan, back away and switch to Ruby,
Now just shoot as many shots of FIRE power as you can. If her shield replenishes, switch back to Toan and slash it.
SUN AND MOON TEMPLE BOSS : Kings Curse
Useful Items : Repair Powder
How to Beat : As Ungaga, run up close and do the Tornado Spin (hold the X button) so you blow the smoke away from the coffin.
Then, slash the coffin with Toan. Easy as that. Just repeat it until hes dead (again).
MOON SEA BOSS : Raging Moon Warrior Minotaur Joe
Useful Items : A semi-strong weapon for Toan is all
How to Beat : Stand so that a Wine Keg is between you and Minotaur Joe and let him walk toward you, he will pick up the keg
and start drinking it. Now use Dran's Feather and slash him, when he runs, follow him and slash him again. Over and over.
The prize is the Sun Sphere which should be the final part to finish the Sun Giant robot.
GALLERY OF TIME BOSS : Dark Genie
This was a little too large to fit here so I put it on a different page.

MOON FACTORY
Connect the peices of the robot together in the correct
places and place the Lookout Tower near the right foot.
If you placed the parts together, it should fit perfectly.
In the peices' names, the last letter on peices with a
matching peice is which side of the robot they belong on,
R = Right and L = Left. You will know when you have connected
two peices properly when they extend to meet each other.
GALLERY OF TIME
In the Gallery of Time, you are putting together peices of
Seda's memory. There is no contruction involved, just gather
the peices from the levels and assemble them IN the dungeon,
as there is no other place to do it. Along the way, view the
parts of Seda's memory by pressing [X] while putting the cursor
over the picture.

VII. City Maps
I highly reccomend completing each city and fulfilling the villagers requests for extra loot/weapons. For those
whose minds are either perplexed or lazy, I have put together maps of MY towns that work for all the requests. I set them
up as grids with all the surrounding features such as direction of sunrise, other buildings, landmarks, etc.

VIII. Item Tips & Info
This section deals with the nicest little tricks that can be done with Items. It will be divided into three different categories; General, Weapons and Attachments. This Section will be updated regularly.
General
General Items are the items such as bread, water, and various powders. These are some tricks that will help you along your game :
Active Items - Active Items are the items in those three little bags on the top of your screen. They enhance your game by being able to use an item in-play without pausing, some really nice ones are Auto-Repair Powder, Dran's Feather, Revival Powder, etc. Drag an item to one of the three item bags to use it with [Square] during a battle.
Dran's Feathers - These are my absolute favorite item, I like them more than even Repair Powder! Simply put your cursor over them in the Item Menu, press [Triangle] to set it to Active Item.
Auto Repair Powder - This will make the best of your Whp by repairing your weapon when it reaches zero. Set it to Active Item and just let your Whp go to zero. Once you do it the first time, youll understand.
Bombs, Bombs, Bombs - I ALWAYS carry around 3 Bombs or Bomb Nuts. They can pull you out of an unexpected Limited Zone or defeat a tedious enemy.
Pockets - Every once and awhile, you will get your hands on a "Pocket". These little beauty's increase the number of items you can carry by 10. I am at 90 items and i can't find any more Pockets.
Character Stat Items - Some items will increase the ammount of health, thirst, and defense your character has. Fruit of Eden increase Hp by 10, Gourds increase the thirst meter by 1 point, and each character has their own defense increasing food. Toan, Xiao, Goro, Ruby, Ungaga, and Osmond each have unique "favorite foods" that increase defense, they are: Fluffy Doughnuts, Fish Candys, Grass Cakes, Witch Parfaits, Scorpion Jerky, and Carrot Cookies, respectivly. The appearance of these items are completely random so you may or may not be able to max out all you chars. (see General Tips Section for more)
- - - - - - - - - -
Weapons
Weapons make Blue Terra go 'round. These are some tricks that will help you along your game :
Repair Powder - THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH REPAIR POWDER!!!!!!!! There just isn't, it doesn't exist. I carry around a min. of 15.
Big Honker Weapons - There is nothing wrong with making one character have a superweapon, as long as you build up the others' weapons too.
SynthSpheres - SynthSpheres should be used to take a lower quality weapon and put its small strength into a bigger weapon, not vice versa. This Part will be added onto extensively.
- - - - - - - - - -
Attachments
Ah, attachments. They power up your weapons, who could ask for more? These are some tricks that will help you along your game :
Gems - Gems are like other attachments except that they: 1. Look better, 2. Increase several stats at once, and 3. are 10 times as expensive as other attachments. Here is a list of all the Gems and what stats they increase:
-Amethyst - +10 Ice, +10 Anti-Dragon, +10 Anti-Mage
-Aquamarine - +10 Ice, +10 Anti-Marine, +10 Anti-Sky
-Diamond - +5 All Monster Types, +10 Anti Metal
-Emerald - +10 Magic, +10 Anti-Dragon, +10 Anti-Plant
-Garnet - +5 Attack, +10 Fire, +10 Anti-Rock, +10 Anti-Beast
-Opal - +10 Endurance, +10 Anti-Metal, +10 Anti-Mage
-Pearl - +10 Endurance, +10 Thunder, +10 Anti-Undead
-Peridot - +5 Attack, +10 Holy, +10 Anti-Beast, +10 Anti-Plant
-Ruby - +10 Speed, +10 Fire, +10 Anti-Mimic
-Sapphire - +10 Magic, +10 Wind, +10 Anti-Sky
-Topaz - +5 Attack, +10 Speed, +10 Anti-Undead, +10 Anti-Sky
-Turquoise - +10 Ice, +10 Anti-Rock, +10 Anti-Mimic
-SUN - +10 Attack, +10 All Elements, +3 All Monster Types
Note: The SUN Gem requires alot of time to get and you only get one! (see Sun area)
The Sun Gem - The Sun is the best gem, hands down. Obtaining it is not so easy though.
Complete Claude's House to get a Candy. Take it to Bunbuku's House and give it to Kululu when she's angry and Bunbuku will give you the Ointment Leaf, take it to Basker's COMPLETE store and trade him it for the Foundation, take that to Jibubu when he is in his house and give it to him, he will give you a Clay Doll. Take the Clay doll to Yellow Drops and give it to the Antique Collector. Agree to give it to him and he will give you the Sun, his treasure.
When you get the Sun Sword from Gosuke the golem, it can be Built-Up if it absorbs the Sun gem. It will turn into the Big Bang, a decent sword nut not as good as the Atlamillia Sword, the Big Bang is built up to the Sword of Zeus, which is a pretty bad sword.
My suggestion is to turn the Sun Sword into a Synth Sphere and have your current sword absorb it and the Sun Gem.

IX. Demon Shaft Guide
The Demon Shaft is the toughest dungeon in the game; Super-Monsters with 2000+hp where your hard-earned Chronicle Sword does a pitiful 450 damage, and the only way to win is to exploit EACH monsters unique weaknesses. After reading this in-progress guide, all you will be saying is "Bring it on!".

X. Fishing Tips
This Section deals with all things Fishy (great...)
Fishing Points - You get Fishing Points when you catch a fish. Then you use them like Chuckie Cheeze Tickets and turn them in for Prizes. You should ONLY buy Gems with Fishing Points, not medicine, not Monster Attachments, and DEFINITELY NOT WEAPONS!!!!! With the fishing points you use buying the weapon you could make another weapon that is twice as powerful with Gems.
Baron Garayan - The Best Fish. It is found in the Muska Racka Oasis at Dusk ONLY. It is 210cm to 150cm and worth 700 - 850 points. They only eat Potato Cakes just like the other fish in the pond, which you can buy in Muska Racka. Sometimes Den (another fish) will be 150 - 170cm in length and you might confuse them for the Baron, so just wait for an huge fish.
Mardan Garayan - The #2 Fish. Found in the Matataki Village waterfall pond at Night ONLY, and Muska Racka Oasis at Dusk ONLY. It is 70cm to 120cm and worth 170 - 270 points. They are the only fish anywhere that eats Poisonous Apples which you can buy from Lana in Queens.
Umadakara - The #3 Fish. Found only in Matataki Village's Peanut Pond at Night. It is 50cm to 120cm and worth 150 - 200 points. They are the only fish in Peanut Pond that eat Carrots which can only be found in dungeons.
