Brian
Mackey is a semi-professional photographer
in Bordentown, NJ.
A couple of years ago, I decided to return to my true passion in life, the
art of photographing people. I began my photographic journey in the late '70s
with a 4x5 view camera and a wooden tripod. I worked only in B&W, and
only photographed women. It was, and is, a wonderful approach to photography.
It requires that you have total control over your results. The drawbacks are
the weight, slow speed and expense of the equipment required. Flash-forward
to the year 2001. As I was trying to figure out a way to return to photography
without the expense and space required for a darkroom, 5 mega-pixel digital
cameras hit the market. This new technology sounded like just the ticket with
one catch, Color images! what did I know about color images? As Photoshop
became my new darkroom, and after 2 years and 2 camera upgrades, using the
Olympus E-20 series cameras, I am moving closer to where I want to be, due
to the success of the "Free Image Project".
The idea was simple - photograph new and established models at no cost to
them. This arrangement provides me with learning experience, and both myself
and the model with images for our portfolios. The practice of T.F.P., or time
for prints, is getting some bad press lately. This project is different, in
that I'm not offering prints, I am offering shared ownership of all images
from our sessions, ( a release is signed by both of us stating we own them
together ), so I've coined the phrase T.F.I. In the beginning, I didn't have
specific projects I wanted to work on so the free image project was based
on what "you" wanted or needed. I now have a couple of projects
in progress. These projects not required for your free shoot but are open
to you if interested.
Beginning in August the "Free Image Project" will only be open to
the artistic side of photography. Artistic nude and figure work, casual glamour,
personal photojournalism, alternative lifestyle's etc. I will also be working
on two book projects. "2 friends" and "10 weeks" . If
the artistic side of photography is what you like to be a part of, please
feel free to contact me and set up a free session. We will still be offering
startup portfolios for amateur models, In home Portraiture, etc and our regular
fees will apply. Email or call if your interested or you want to know more
about the project.
Please remember that all our work is a joint effort. If you're new to modeling
and not sure what kind of shoot you want to do or how to pose, we will work,
learn and create together. All work is done at my location or yours if your
local. Also keep in mind, I do not know it all either, like you I am learning
as I go. So with that in mind it should be fun and relaxed.
You will receive a CD with all of the days shoot (good and bad) at the end
of the shoot. You will also receive at a later date, the images I tweak in
Photoshop for internet posting or printing. And you will receive 2 8x10 prints
of your choice.
regards,
Brian
