Troops from the 6th appeared in front of the group cutting them off with
such suddenness that several of their mounts reared, causing Teri to devote
all of her effort towards remaining seated and Kal to do a rather
unceremonious back flip.

Clip, on the other hand, did not even pause.  With a minor change in course
and a short leap, he cleared one of the soldiers' horses and proved that his
hooves were just as deadly as his alicorn.

Asoon as his hooves touched the ground he twisted his mass and headed for
the next soldier.  The look of shock in the
man's eyes was evident as he became the next to die on the end of an ivory
spear.

Kal leaped to the back of another soldier's horse and dug his heels in,
causing the beast to bolt.  At the same time he slipped a dagger into the
man's kidneys.  Not the most pleasant way to go, but it did the job.  He
pushed the dying man of of his mount just in time to see that the horse was
running under a low branch, and for the second time in as many minutes the
thief was unhorsed.

Stana felt Agni tremble eagerly underneath. Even unarmored the call to
battle was strong. He wanted to fight and for a few moments the girl had her
hands full trying to contain him.

He settled as she checked him sharply, keeping him still as she looked from
person to person looking for and finally finding the triumphant icy gaze of
their pursuer.

Stana kicked Agni gently, prodding him forward. She kept her eyes glued to
the others face, and saw her likewise begin to move forward. Another few
steps and they would meet.

Whatever intent Stana had was lost in the next moment as the Stallion shied
beneath her, bucking strangely. Then Stana gave a shout as the entire forest
exploded into life.

A solder began screaming and jumped off his horse.  Ripping off his
helmet, it became revealed that there were mice clinging to his face.
These were hastily ripped away, but his continued flailing indicated
that others had found their way into his armor.

The 6th paused for but a moment at the spectacle, and then had their own
problems to deal with.  Some had mice, others slashed wildly at small
flocks of birds that swooped down to peck at them.

In the confusion, Kal had managed to regain his feet and grab his horse.
 "Run!  Run while you can!"  He hastily took his own advice.

One of the 6th tossed away a squirrel and made to intercept, but was
impaled by a rack of deer antlers.  The Buck charged forward until it
hit a tree, the resulting force pushing the antlers clean through.

As the deer attempted to pull himself free another solder took the
opportunity to slice the beast's throat.  The victor grinned in triumph
- they would dine on venison tonight.

He would not, however.  At the sound of a growl behind him he turned to
see a VERY large bear.  One swipe of the grizzly's massive paw rendered
the same fate the buck had suffered.

There were stabs of pain along the bear's side, and with a cry of rage
the animal lumbered towards the archers who had fired upon it.

Leih grimaced as she sliced what must have been her 50th bird out of the
air.  It was as if the very forest was rising up against them!  Was this
the Chosen?  More of the force that had attacked her tent?

An image flashed into her head of the rabbit she had speared on the end
of her blade not so long ago.  She wondered if this was some form of
revenge, then dismissed the possibility as ludicrous.  Animals just
didn't behave that way.

But then, she thought, animals don't behave like THIS either.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a great bear collapse and breathe
it's last, it's body full of arrows like a grotesque pincushion.

"Shit!" Teri shouted from behind. "Stana GO!"

Tearing her gaze from Lieh, the girl wrenched Agni's head towards the deeper
forest and spurred him that way. At her back she could hear Clips triumphant
clarion call as he leapt in pursuit.

The mocking sound of Unocron laughter wafted in their wake.
