We meet Max, a genetically egineered human. We also meet Logan a.k.a. Eyes Only. They team up (unofficially of course) until Logan can find max's brothers and sisters (other "soldiers" like her ).
Max pulls a sweet stunt in which she jumps off a bridge and swings across a river with Hannah. She escapes with Hannah. Max (again with Logan's help) gets Hannah a passport. Hannah gives Max some info about Max's mom saying that she struggled and escaped because she didn't want to give up Max. Max's mom was put into a mental hospital.
She asks him what he was doing when the pulse hit and he tells her. And then Logan asks Max what she was doing. "Hiding under the stairs," she replies. She was staying with a foster family and the father was a drunk who, well lets just say he did a really horrible thing, to the other girl staying with the foster family- you might almost say she was Max's other sister. Her name was Lucy. "He was a drunk. He used to smack us around. And when the pulse hit he looked for someone to blame it on."
"A super soldier like yourself taking that?" askes Logan. "Well it seemed as good a reason as any to disapper."
"Don't get in his way, Maxxie or he might start with you too," says Lucy ( in the flashback). "In Manticore, we were taught to either fight or flee, so i ran," Max explains. Then her siezures get really bad and Max goes and sits on this couch thingy. She starts shaking really bad and Logan asks her about the siezures. She tells him that everyone so once in a while she hits a rough patch and this is a much stronger siezure than usuall. "Want me to call a doctor?"
"And tell him what? That your genetically -egineered friend has some wires crossed?"
"That stuff really helps?" Logan asks, pointing to her triptophane capsules.
Then she explains about the siezures and all. Then her and Logan have this really romantic scene. Logan asks, "What can i do to help?" "Stay with me, please,"Max replies. "Okay." "All night?" Max requests "I'm not going anywhere."
