Lydecker
had traced Max's picture to the Jam Pony records. But when he went
there he didn't find her. He found Original Cindy. "Tell me
where she is!" he said, quite sternly, followed by a quick slap across
her face.
"Like
there's a chance in hell I'd give up my homegirl's stats to a creepout like
you, even if I did have any idea where she is. Which, I don't.
But if ya find her tell her to stop by Original Cindy's tonight, K?"
she replied, very calmly for a girl tied to a chair. He turned to his
"friends."
"Kill
her," he demanded.
At
that moment, Max had anything but Lydecker on her mind. She was
running over to Logan's- she needed some help. When the elevator
opened she knocked on his door. "Logan? It's me, Max,"
she said. She could hear him wheeling over to the door. It
opened. "Hey. What's up?" he asked. He could
tell she was genuinely worried. "Max, what's wrong?" he
asked again.
"They
took her," she said. "Who?" Logan was totally confused.
"My Ninja.
The
sector police. They took her. Security's gotten really tight
around the impound lot- I'm gonna need your help getting in," she said.
An statement of relief came over Logan's face. He had to keep himself
from laughing.
"What?"
Max asked, upon seeing Logan. "Nothing," he said, holding
back.
"You
think this is funny? Figures," she said. "No, it's
just that I thought someone was in danger or something. I was just
relieved," he answered.
"Someone
is in danger! My baby is locked up in that impound lot. Now are
you gonna help me or not?" she asked. "Sure. You gonna
break in there tonight?" he asked. "Yea, I want her back as
soon as possible," she said.
"I'll
get right on it, then. There's some leftovers in the fridge if you're
hungry," he offered. "Sure. Always got time to raid
your kitchen," she said. She smiled at him then... for just a
little too long. She suddenly
realized
this, turned, and headed for the kitchen. 'Oops,' she thought to
herself. When she came back in the living room with a plate of food
Logan was printing something out. "I got the layout and where all
the guards'll be," he said. "That was fast.
Thanks," she said. She ate for a few minutes, in silence.
When she looked up she noticed Logan was looking at her. He quickly
turned his head away when she looked up. "Um...so how did you get
off work?" he asked her. "I told Normal I got "girly
problems," she said, jokingly. She noticed Logan blush and
quickly changed her sarcastic answer. "Normal took the day off
for "personal business,"" she said.
"Everybody's
slackin." She thought it was so cute when Logan blushed at things
like that. "Gotta blaze," she said, realizing she was
staring again. "Yea," Logan replied. She could tell he
was feeling under-appreciated. Before she left, she turned around and
walked over to him, bent down close to his face and into his eyes.
"Aww, ya know I love ya, right?" she asked, with a smile. He
looked up at her. "Yea. But it's always nice to hear,"
he replied. She laughed, kissed him quickly on the cheek and walked
towards the door. He smiled at her as she left. She headed for
home, actually feeling happy, for once. This is turning out to be an
OK day.
Back
at she and Kendra's "house," Kendra was getting ready for a date
when the door burst open and she was flung on to the floor by a bunch of
guys with guns. "Where is Max?" she heard.
Maybe
this wasn't going to be such a great day after all.
