When I asked a few of my close friends to come up with 5 lines of poetry, I gave them three subject choices:

a. the most important thing in your life
b. your life
c. love

This is what they came up with... (everything (c) 2000 their respective owners!)

Esme / Aunt Suzanne
GodKing / Kenneth
Galaxia / Deb
Beryl / Lisa
Alysa / Batgirl / Krissi (yes me!)

Esmeraude....

Miss Esme chose to reply to choice... b. your life! or her life!, rather...

I can't decide which way my life should turn now...
having reached "that" point in my life.
Or what's the purpose for which my soul was wrought?

But I know that my hands and legs must follow my heart...
or my body will never be whole.

GodKing....

GodKing, who so nicely named me batgirl, chose c. love....

this fire in my brain
this song in my heart
this twist in my gut
what took you so long?
why did you leave so quick?

Galaxia....

Galaxia, or Deb (she has identity crises sometimes!), wrote about a. AND c. ...

Roses are Pink
And, blue be the Texas bluebells.
None other is sweeter than my Michele
At least that's what I think...
Now I have to go get a drink!

By this window I sit
Upon a pink cushion on a straight-backed chair
Here I live a different life -- of distant lands, valiant quests, mysterious adventures and high romance
Sunlight filters through lengths of heavy lace casting dancing shadows on leaves of paper
As I sit and read my book and live another's life.

Lisa....

Beryl, or Lisa got deep with her answer about her own life:

my soul generates tears as i recall the painful memories left behind
but the moment i look up and see the wonderful people i know, a new light floods my heart
all painful memories are quickly erased from my battered mind
new beautiful memories of friendships i can now start
without any grief pulling tears from my eyes

Krissy / Batgirl....

Since the challenge was mine, I answered all three choices (in order)...

From fingernail goddesses and marching band queens
My life has become something else
That now threatens to change...

New college friends occupy time that the La babes cannot,
But still tall babe and Cajun witch are the best!!

I sound the alarm!
College life, come to kill us all!
Stress, stress, stress, stress, stress!

No, my real poem was this:
Emily, you wrote a long book,
And this English paper is killing me
Maybe I should have tried Mr. King and Mr. Golding
But perhaps it is too late, and I need more sleep...
Someone get me out of my house...

And last but not least....

Sand warms my back as I stretch out,
Lost in my reverie instead of the beautiful day
Spent my time waiting for an angel
Or perhaps just a dreamboat who wasn't exactly perfect...
And now he's here....
