| twelfth night (another villanelle) |
| I once desired nothing more than you, The spark, the flame, the open fire, But then you kissed my lips adieu. I know not how my passion grew, But you became my heart's best lyre - I once desired nothing more than you. I played you all the songs I knew In a quest to awaken your desire, But then you kissed my lips adieu. Each time I saw you, my love was renewed, And despair sometimes helped to inspire (I once desired nothing more than you). I became so bold, so fresh, so new; I thought your heart was mine to acqure - But then you kissed my lips adieu. Then your goodbye was all I knew, From your lips my heart did spire. I once desired nothing more than you, But then you kissed my lips adieu. |
