On the way to a small town in California...
A short plane trip later Chainsaw emerged from the terminal at the Airport
and saw a short woman dressed in pink waiting at the gate. Her straw
colored hair stired with the breeze from an overhead air duct as she looked
up and smiled at Chainsaw. He slowly walked over with his hands thrust into
the pockets of his lab coat.
They embraced and the woman said, "My God has it really been four years
Stan?"
"Mhh, I've missed you Becky, thanks for meeting me," said
Chainsaw as he took her hand and gently caressed her fingers.
"Other than the scar on your cheek, you haven't changed much," said Becky as
she lightly touched his face. "You still even wear that dorky lab coat," she
laughed.
"As I recall, you thought my lab coat was cute," sighed Chainsaw with a
feighned hurt tone in his voice.
"A lot has happened since then...," said Becky as she looked sadly behind
her at a young boy sitting at the end of a row of seats playing a game boy.
"That kid looks likes he's having fun. Something's kinda familiar about
him though," said Chainsaw as he looked the boy up and down quisically.
"Stanley..., he's... your son," said Becky with a wavering voice.
"Son?!," said Chainsaw with his mouth agape.
"...That time after the funneral," Becky grabbed Chainsaw's arm and flicked
her downcast gaze up to meet his, "...He has your eyes."
"What's his name? Does he know about me? Why didn't you tell me?,"
babbled Chainsaw.
"We couldn't get a hold of you, we tried, but we thought you were dead. No
one had heard from you for so long...even your brother gave up hope," said
Becky as she looked at the boy. She turned her gaze back to Chainsaw and
fixed him in her sight as her eyes twinkled with beaming pride,
"His name is Stanley Eugene Weaver."
Becky drew Chainsaw over to the kid, "Stanley, this is your father, Stan
Grey." The kid, focused on his game, merely nodded and kept playing.
"Stanley! That's rude, this is your FATHER!"
"What cha' playing kid?," interupted Chainsaw bending down at the waist to
meet his kid at eye level.
"Harry Potter!," exclaimed the kid as he mashed the buttons and let out a
low giggle. Chainsaw glanced at the screen and saw a pixilated version of
Harry Potter with his little lightning scarred face blackened and hair on
end as if some chem lab experiment had gone horribly awry.
Chainsaw smiled.
Stanley smiled back.
Then they both laughed holding the backs of their knecks.
Becky giggled too and then drug them off toward the car.
The three walked out into the parking lot and got into Becky's old
Station Wagon. "You'll stay with us in the apartment of course. It'll be
nice having you around. Ever since Persephony and Trinity joined the new
coven, they haven't spent any time with me. It's just been little Stanley
and me, ...and now you; kind of like a family now," said Becky as she
secured little Stanley in the carseat in the back of the 'wagon.
Chainsaw remembered how Becky and Persephony had lived in a small
trailer on the wrong side of the tracks. Their foster parents were either
too abusive or too drunk to care where they were at. The closest thing they
had to a family was the clique with Eugene. Maybe deep down they had all
been missing that sense of family since Eugene died. Suddenly a strange
feeling of dread worked its way into the twisting coridors of Chainsaw's
mind. Dread and the desire to pace like a caged animal. He had a kid now,
and a woman whose eyes pleeded desperately for a family. Shit, better worry
about commitment later, if I survive facing down that thing that killed
Eugene, thought Chainsaw.
After a few more hours of the song filled car ride,
'The Ittsy-bitsy-spider' had lodged itself deeply into Chaisaw's
subconciousness. Fortunately, a bastion of sanity loomed along the roadside
up ahead. "Hey Becky, pull over into that Home Depot would you?," said
Chainsaw with a grin like a kid at a candy store, "There's a few things
I need to pick up."
Chainsaw came back to the Station Wagon about ten minutes later with a
bag of various wood working tools and a large orange plastic cased chainsaw.
Becky shot him a look, but Chainsaw just smirked cockily and stuffed the
'tools' in the back.
"So Becky, do you think we could swing by the Bookstore for a coffee before
we head to the appartment and settle in?"
"They should be just opening pretty soon. I'm sure Trinity would love to
see you too."
Becky pulled the Station Wagon up alonside of the old bookstore where
Trinity worked. Out of the corner of his eye, Chainsaw saw two men dressed
in black hooded flowing trenchcoats trying to jimmy open the locked door.
Chainsaw bit down on his lip as he activated the sight revealing the
wrongness of the two men. He swung silently out of the Station Wagon and
opened the back to retrieve his newly purchased chainsaw. Becky
stopped and stared at Chainsaw, "What are you doing?"
"Stay with the car!," said Chainsaw as he apoached the two men from behind.
As he got closer he could make out tattoos of hideous decaying beasts on
the shaved head of the man next to the fat one with hedgehog like chins
who was currently attempting to force the door open. The tattooed one
caught sight of Chainsaw and nudged his fat hedgehog like associate.
"Maybe you should mind your own business doctor," said the bald tattooed man
with a glint of unhealthy metallic teeth. You wouldn't want anything to
happen to your lady friend over there," said the fat one, gesturing to Becky
by the Station Wagon while patting a long bulge under his coat.
Chainsaw raised his chainsaw up into a guard position and misty steam rose
up as the blade began to glow a sickly sulpurous yellow. The two men's eyes
widened slightly and they reached for their guns beneath their coats.
Chainsaw steped in with angular downward slice cleaving through the fat
man's trenchcoat and half drawn gun as easily as butter. With the same
motion he also locked his left elbow and whiped across the shaven headed
tattoed man's chin, spraying an odd icor like substance over Chainsaw's lab
coat. Chainsaw took a step back and ripped off his disolving lab coat,
tossed it aside, and then straitened his red priest collar.
The two men exchanged looks and rushed him with a double tackle sending
Chainsaw sprawling, but not without Chainsaw scoring a minor hit to the arm
of the fat man. The two men looked at Becky and little Stanley and ran off
down the street.
The door to the Bookstore opened and Trinity leaned out in her overly tight
leather and said, "What's all the ruckus out here? Stanley? Why are you on
the ground?"
"Nice to see you too. Some things were trying to break in, but it wasn't
Clint. Have you gained weight?"
Trinity sucker punched Chainsaw across the jaw and turned over the closed
sign. "Good to see you too Bitch. Want to come in for a coffee?," said
Trinity with a smile.
Same old Trinity, thought Chainsaw as he helped Becky and Little Stanley
inside the old bookstore.
