Dove whispers. "What sort of evil is this?" She turns to you with the look of utter disbelief on her elfish face. Her furry companions press close to her side looking for security from their friend. Rubbing the last bit of sleep from your eye you follow her stare to the strangely cast sky and black clouds swirl about the towers of the same black castle that loomed in your dream. Dove turns her attention to you, "Friends, I must tell the Woodland Council of this most unsettling occurrence. While I have lore of most all of the animals that roam these lands, the lore of mankind alludes me. I am sure the Council will know who, or what, is behind this. Certainly it is evil, just look at the land!" She points to the wilting greenery around your campsite. You are positive that yesterday it was green and full from good spring rains and warm summer days. The grass under your feet is visibly weathering, turning a sickly brown. "Listen," she whispers tilting her head this way and that. "There are no bird calls. No bugs buzzing. What could have silenced nature? Please, explore the lands and castle, if you feel its safe. I will return as soon as I can with help and information. I am hoping that it will only take me three days to return." After everyone has agreed to help explore the strange withering land and the appearance of the castle, Dove collects her things. Her companions never then a few feet from her side appear to be very anxious to leave. "Take care! Watch your step!" Dove calls as she hurries off along the road heading toward Mannix and farther north the Woodland Council. You find yourself looking back to the sky and its angry clouds. Hoping that maybe you are still dreaming, you begin to gather your gear. All thoughts of still sleeping vanish as a cold drizzle starts to fall. From somewhere off in the distance there is a howl of a lone wolf. Not that she'd say it out loud, at least not the older part. She had offered food from one of the pouches, but her culinary talents were rather average. After a couple decades in the kitchen of the Thieves' Guild one might have thought the Elven girl's cooking could be describe with a compliment more flattering than edible . One the other hand, perhaps that was exactly why the masters reassigned her to other tasks. The terrified camper awakened from the reverie to discover it was indeed prophetic. As soon as Dove announced her plan to rush to the Woodland Council, Michelle was quick to offer her company. But the ranger made no reply and hurried off, leaving the girl stuck in the dying forest. In response to Blackthorn's grunt Michelle indignantly replies, "Yes, Elves. What of it?" But her bravado is short lived, and she edges closer to the axeman. ***************** End Of Article ****************** Utar the Willing posted Message 11120 Dated : October 03, 2002 at 14:27 GMT Subject: Re: In the Beginning it Rained Utar eyes his companions carefully and thoughtfully before replying, Well, I dont know about elves, but Utar doesnt back down from a fight; or a threatening dream, no matter how realistic it seemed. Again you hear a lone wolf call, but this time it is closer. It makes your heart skip a beat, but not enough to make you truly worry about seeing the animal that made the call. Unlike your dreams, nothing chases you to the doors of the castle. The hard wood doors are set into dark stone. You reach out for the iron ring, but before you touch it, the doors swing open. From the doorway you can easily see most of the large entrance room. there are tapestries hanging on each wall. They depict a story. The first one shows a city burning and people dieing at the hands of great demon lord. The second shows of a great war where all the races stand side by side fighting a demon and its minions. The third has heroes defeating the demon and imprisoning it back to the underworld where it came. The fourth has a great feast in the heroes honor. There are also six pillars with suits of full plate armor standing at their feet. The armor holds a long sword point down. The armor shines brightly with a black edging. The room is lit by ornate candle holders on the pillars, holding no less then twenty candles. The light illuminates the room in an gentle glow. The is no sign of what opened the door or the master of the castle. The air is dry and has a faint smell of mold. In the awed silence you can make out a harp playing so faintly you wonder if you heard it at all. A breeze causes the candles to flicker and the music stops, though the haunting music echoes in you mind. ***************** End Of Article ****************** Michelle posted Message 11139 Dated : October 08, 2002 at 07:12 GMT Subject: Re: In the Beginning it Rained Michelle nods to Duncan, "As you say. "Hold, Angus," she urges the Dwarf. "Let me look about first, and do not let me be trapped inside." The rogue inspects the threshold and the hinges wary of any pressure plates or tripwires. She seeks the mechanism by which the portal was opened though she suspects magic involved. If there is nothing mechanical for her to disarm, Michelle will cautiously enter giving the others a running commentary on what she senses. In particular she looks first for windows through which she might escape from the castle should the unseen host decide to slam the door closed on her and put out the lights. Then, he lets out a nearly inaudible sigh and turns to the group. "Well boys, this door is most definately sealed with magic. These runes basically state that only 'authorized beings' are allowed to pass . . . " He pauses briefly as he surveys the group. "Hey, Khord, you are aware that there's a big ugly bird up there giving you the EEEEEVIL eye, yes? Might I suggest someone grabs it? It's more than it appears to be . . . much like this door." He then turns back to the door in question, "Now, let's see if I can prove my authorization shall we?"
