At times throughout the game you will be called on to "roll the dice". Since Dark Gully isnt played on a tabletop with actual dice, we use a script ran from mIRC that is a random number roller. The script behaves as real dice would and can be set to a number of sides and number of dice rolled.
To roll the dice you first type the number of dice you wish to roll, use a lower case "d" and then the number of sides on the die you would roll. For example, if you are rolling your Hit% or Dodging% you would need one 100-sided die, which is called percentile dice. So you would type d100 or 1d100. When rolling only one die, no number is needed at the beginning. To roll for inititive, you would type d10 or 1d10. If you are using a weapon that can deal 2d4 points of damage and you hit someone, you would roll 2d4 (2 4-sided dice).
When rolling the dice the roll must come at the first of the action but you can type beyond the roll for your description of what you are doing.
Below are some examples on what it will look close to when you roll in the game channels. Angus is the name of the acting character and DarkGully is the name used for dice.
< Angus > d10 initAt times a character may need to dodge two rolls and some may attack twice in one round. If they do, they may make both rolls in one action. To do that use the # symbol between the number of dice and the type of die you need to use.
Examples:
You can also state whether you are attacking, dodging, or rolling for inititive in your roll. Simply put which the roll is for after the dice.
< Angus > d100 attack
< DarkGully > Angus rolls a (d100) to attack and gets 45 .
< Angus > d100 dodge
< DarkGully > Angus rolls a (d100) to dodge and gets 66 .
< Angus > d10 init
< DarkGully > Angus rolls a (d10) for inititive and gets 1 .
< Angus > d10 inititive
< DarkGully > Angus rolls a (d10) for inititive and gets 8 .
The text for your action can still be put after the roll and words.
< Angus > d100 attack - Angus turns quickly and brings the heavy blade of the axe down on the head of the troll, splitting it open.
< DarkGully > Angus rolls a (d100) to attack and gets 76 .
One last note is that rolls can be done in Action form (when you type /me [action here]) in the channel so long as the roll comes at the first of the post.
