just like the other dragons adrenaline had. Aqaniss looked up from the wound, despite his
weakness, he came after Drake again. Sparks flew just like before as they battled. Aqaniss
managed to cut Drakes chest open. As he staggered back, Aqaniss ran at him. He held
him down with his foot and ran the sword thru Drakes heart. As Drake died, he grabbed
Aqanisss arm and told him with his last ounce of strength, You....win....dragon. When
his body went limp and his grip went loose on Aqanisss arm, he pulled his sword from his
body and picked him up. With the help of the other soldiers, he carried him up to the
tower and held him up above his head and let out a triumphant roar. All of the armies
looked up. When the Vampireans saw that their Lord was dead, they immediately threw
down their arms and gave up. They had no choice but to give up. Aqaniss lowered
Drakes body and laid it at his feet. He and the other worriers went back down to the main
battlefield. Dragons that had fallen laid strewn about the land. They counted about one
hundred of their own men.
One hundred crying families of Dragonarea. Aqaniss said. Just as He got out his last
word, he fell to the ground. He could no longer go on. All the other soldiers rushed to
help him. He was still alive. They felt that they should at least get him back home to Lady
Hydra. They fashioned a cart to carry him on across the water. All the other fallen dragons
were brought back on a separate cart so they could be given a proper burial.
Lady Hydra was with Lady Shair. Shair was telling Hydra about the fight with Diablo.
I cant believe he said that to me. Shair said. Tears rolled down her face.
Everything will be fine, Shair. You will see. Hydra said soothingly to Shair. If only she
knew what had happened to Aqaniss. She would think very differently.
Just then, Lord Diablo came into the room. Lady Hydra, I think you might want to come
out here for a minute. Shair, can you please stay in here? I want to talk to you.
Lady Hydra ran outside to see what Diablo was talking about. Deep in her heart, she knew
that it had something to do with Aqaniss. Diablo looked at Shair. He could tell that she
was still upset over the fight.
Shair, Im really sorry I said all that. You were right about the war. If I could take it
back, I would. But I cant. I love you. I always have and I always will. I promise right here
and now that a fight like that will never happen again.
Shair looked into Diablos eyes. She could see that he was telling the truth. Before she
could reply, she heard Hydra cry out in sadness. She looked up at Diablo expecting an
explanation of the cry. Diablo just put his head down. Shair ran out to Hydras side.
There, on the cart, was the lifeless body of Lord Aqaniss. He had died from the loss of
blood that the wounds had done. His torn and battered wings laid limply at his side. Blood
trails were all over his body as if someone had taken a great bucket of blood all over his
body. His used to be dark sea green scales were now stained with dark red blood from him
and from the vampires. Lady Hydra was at his side crying. She had lost her father in the
last war and now she had lost her husband. Lady Shair knelt down beside her and wrapped
her wings around her. Lady Hydra could not stop crying.
Why him? She asked Shair. Why him?
Its ok, Hydra. He died protecting you. He died with honor. Shair told her soothingly.
Even though she was starting to cry herself.
Diablo stepped up and put his hand on them both. He will have a proper burial. Not just
the burial of a Lord or Worrier, but the burial of a immortal. He put his head down.
Aqaniss had been a life long friend to him. Now he was gone. He looked up when he
heard the other carts being brought up with the other dragons on it. They would be buried
in the way befitting them.
The next day, the entire land of Dragonarea watched as the fallen worriers were laid to
rest. Families wept from the loss of a husband and father or a son. The entire land wept as
Aqaniss was laid in the ground in a huge stone casket with his statue above it. On the
casket was inscribed Death, is Only the Beginning.
Lady Hydra stood before the entire Water Dragon race as well as all the other dragons and
vowed to take her husbands place as ruler of the Water Dragons. She also vowed that
this war would go down in the history books that the hatchlings were taught from. But she
would make sure that the reason for the war was put in and stressed all throughout the
lesson. That false accusation was the cause of the war and that they should never be made
without proof.
