Moths II

the Light
This Light has nothing to do with the lightside at the FA, or anything like that. It is a Light beyond that, so bright and searing that when you see it you cannot tear your eyes away. If you see it, that is. For how many of us are dazzled by this Light?
I do not know what this Light is. Some say it's the energy of Creation itself. Some say it's a God or deity. Some might say that it's the force. It's in literature, it's in music. It sparks in the letters as they flow from your pen. It crackles in the air as you speak. It whispers as you think and softly closes your eyes as you sleep. It is the voice of creation, the song of inspiration.
Yet we are too similar to moths to be able to exist with this light. It's the light of inspiration, yet we can't handle it. It's too bright; it burns our eyes.
We can decide whether to remain sane and safe in the dark, by closing our eyes we will never see this brilliance and never be blinded by it. Or we can gaze in awe at it's glory and watch as our fingers fly across our keyboards or as the words flow across the page not knowing what we write and the letters burn into the page. Wonderful creative words - poetry and music and essays and lyrics and paintings and arguments. We see this light at the back of our eyes as we sing. It's beautiful, it's so beautiful.
A sane person would question this - "Why am I giving myself unto this Light? Surely I can live without it" and turn from it to spiral down away. How could you? Even if you risk burning yourself out, surely its better to do something, to create beautiful things for some years of your life, to create something memorable, to create something to be remembered by...surely better to create something to stun than to live out your life in safe sobriety?
We soar so high, and we know we're too close. We feel the heat against our cheeks and the glare through half-closed eyelashes. We feel our wings char and crumble, yet we cannot tear our eyes away.
It's beautiful, it's so beautiful.
