Be Careful What You Ask For (3/?) ******************************** by Teri 9/2/00 Knighteyes left Sherri here: <<"Just leave me alone!" and she ran down the hallway to the library.>> Sherri raced in through the Library door as if the devil himself were after her, slamming it shut behind her and glaring at it as if daring it to open again. OOOOH! She hated vampires!! She didn't know which was worse, having one's cold, creepy tongue in your mouth or having one crawling around inside your mind! She shuddered and attempted to shake off the memory of both sensations. "'Why were you weeping?'" she mocked to no one, quoting Nick in his concern. "I wasn't 'weeping', ya moron!" she snarled, taking off her now empty and useless holster and slinging it violently across the library. She didn't even notice the startled look on the whispy faces of the ghosts who scattered away from the hurled object. "I was *swearing*!! Oh, yeah.....sure there may have been tears in my eyes but.....but I wasn't 'WEEPing'!!!" The ghosts weren't the only thing she overlooked in her fury as she threw herself heavily down into one of the library chairs to sulk. "Some detective! Hmmphf! Not smart enough to know the difference! STUPID vampires!!" "'Stupid......vampires'?" The softly spoken words from the other side of the huge room were uttered in an ice-cold voice that would have sent chills down the spine of the warmest vampire-lover. Recognizing it immediately, Sherri didn't even want to look over there, didn't want to acknowledge having heard him, hoping beyond hope that it was all a bad dream and he'd just go away. No such luck. She heard the chair he was in swivel as he turned away from the desk where he sat, heard it squeak as he rose to his feet. She wasn't sure if it was her imagination or not, but she felt the evil, sinister presence loom closer as he approached. 'Dammit!' she thought, 'Leave me alone!!!' LaCroix sat on the back of the chair next to hers, and she could feel his eyes never leaving her. He leaned a little toward her and she itched to have her water pistol handy, still refusing to look up at him, to allow him to see the effect his intimidation tactics were having. "Is our little 'Castle Vamp Antagonist' having a bad day?" he intoned in a mockingly sweet voice. "Are we 'Stupid.....vampires'...." she tried not to cringe at his careful enunciation,".....not playing the game by your rules?" She fidgeted in her chair, struggling to resist the urge to bolt away from him. "Awwwww......." He made a 'tsk'ing sound but she didn't think it sounded at ALL genuine. "How RUDE of us.....and you wanted to play so badly.....One last challenge before you left, no?" He reached out to stroke a stray wisp of hair away from her face. That was too much. Sherri slapped his hand away and leapt out of her chair and out of his easy reach. "Get OFF me, you Old Fart!" she snapped without even thinking about it. *#$%#@!!!* She thought to herself, *yeah that's it, piss him off beyond all reason, that's good....* Not even Mommie-NAY would defend her for that one! But to her surprise the Master Vampire started laughing, a menacing sound in itself, but it was laughter nonetheless. "'Old Fart,'" he repeated in amusement."Well, I must say I've been called worse. And usually by Nicholas, I might add!" He chuckled again at some private memory he was enjoying. "Ahh....Nicholas. He was only trying to help, you know. You were....SO.....upset. He does hate to see that in one of his Mortal 'friends.'" "He's NOT my 'friend,'" She snarled. "And he can 'help' by staying the @#$#@ out of my head!" "Oh I see." She detested the condescending tone he was using with her. "But you wanted to 'play'. You *wanted* us to come to you, did you not? 'Here Vampire, Vampire, Vampire'..... Come play a game with garlic and holy water? A little fun at the expense of the Undead?" He was no longer seated but had risen again to his feet and was slowly strolling across the floor toward her. She continued to edge just as slowly away, not wanting it to look as though she were running away from him. "You wanted to 'go out with a bang', no? 'Come out, come out wherever you are...', isn't that what you asked for? Well.....you can hardly be angry with us for answering, now can you?" He chuckled again, an incongruous little giggle that didn't seem to match the impression of sinister evilness that she knew he embodied. "We've merely given you what you asked for. And let me ask you this.....Have you been injured? Has anyone *hurt* you? Did Vachon? Did Nicholas? Have I......?" His eyes were so compelling, so commanding, such a light ice-blue.....no, now they were yellow....... When had she looked into those eyes? she wondered. How had he gotten past her defenses? She suddenly felt the unyielding bookshelves behind her and realized that the loud pounding she'd been hearing was her own heart. She slid along the shelved wall and swore at herself when she came up against the adjoining one. How had she allowed herself to be backed into a corner?? The Master Vampire was towering over her now, and even though he had never lost that irritating, taunting smile she could now see the tips of his fangs peeking through between his open lips. Ohhhhh....GAWD!!! She hated vampires!! She clutched frantically at the books behind her, wishing fervently that she was in the religious section and wondering briefly if it was possible to beat a vampire to death with a holy book. "Where's your playful spirit now?" he continued to taunt. "Where's your garlic and holy water to save you? Do you no longer want to 'play' with vampires, little mortal? Don't you think it's fun anymore? Well, maybe I can change your mind. Maybe you'd like to attend Night School......" He leaned closer, so close that all she could see was fangs. And those eyes, those glowing golden eyes...... *********** Bwahahahahahaha!!!! Teri is feeling EVIL today! >:o} .....to be continued....... (?)
