FkFanatics part 4 by Renee Hey...not mine, not yours, not ours, they belong to THEM! archive away! *******************************************************Nick sat at his desk rubbing his temples. If he were mortal, he’d have one *hell* of a headache. Captain Cohen had wanted to see them all right- and not for a pep talk. She had let them know, in no uncertain terms, that she wanted answers and she wanted them NOW. They were not to rest until this fiend was apprehended . Then she had told Nick she wanted a word alone with Schanke. So Nick was awaiting his partner’s return and trying not to hear the raised voice of Captain Cohen, as she rained criticisms down on Schanke. Nick heard the phrase, "half-assed reports you’ve filed in the past!" and winced. These gruesome murders had everyone buzzing around and on edge. Nick was no exception. he wondered. Just then Schanke returned, his usually jovial face flushed. "Hey partner, let’s go see what Nat has got for us." Nick didn’t mention Schanke’s one-on-one meeting with Captain Cohen. He didn’t have to. Schanke said, "Let’s get outta here before Captain Cohen thinks of something else to get mad about. Man, she hardly ever loses her cool, but when she does! Man, oh man!" With a commiserative pat on the back and rueful smile, Nick followed Schanke to the morgue. Something was wrong, but Nick couldn’t put a name to it. He felt overwhelming apprehension. Something was very wrong. Half way down the corridor to the morgue Nick doubled over when a wave of pain hit him suddenly. He felt her pain through their link. Wave after wave of agony washed over her- a vampire shouldn’t be able to feel this kind of agony! "Hey, Nick! You okay?" Schanke asked with a concerned frown. "Uh, yeah-" Nick said straightening up, with a look of pain on his face. "Listen, I just thought of something I need to check out. You go on and check with Nat and I’ll catch you later," he said as he brushed by Schanke. "Nick!! Man, we need to stick together- Cohen is not going to like you going off alone! Nick!!!" Schanke turned toward Nick to make his complaint, but he was wasting his breath. Nick was already gone. ************************************************************************************************* Nick set down from his flight in front of the park entrance. This was where he had felt Janette calling to him from. Nick stopped and felt for the link between Janette and him. He felt her, but it was more faint. Nick then felt the telepathic pull of his master. He saw them then. LaCroix, with a stricken look on his face, sat on the ground, holding Janette in his arms. Nick rushed to her side. And then he saw the blood. Rivers of it, pouring from Janette and soaking the ground. my part is through- your turn Val! =====
