     Well, this makes two milestones for me. This is the first time I've 
written in a round robin and the first time I've written a Forever Knight 
fic. It's short, but I was able to work the two endings in. Hope you like 
it.

The Guiding Darkness, Part 9

     Knowing that it would annoy LaCroix, Nick chose to drive to the Raven 
instead of traveling with LaCroix. Well, that was only part of the reason.    
Nick knew it was also because he needed the time to sort things out in his 
head. 
  
     "Something just isn't right" Nick thought, "Why did LaCroix come to the 
morgue? It could be just as LaCroix said, that he was just there to see me.    
Still, if he knew that I was going there, he probably knew that I had stopped 
off at the loft first. So, why didn't he wait for me at the loft? Whoops, 
red light." 
  
     Nick slams on his breaks and resumed mulling things over in his head, 
"Then there's Nat. She seemed either scared or confused while I was there.   
Why? Was I right in thinking that LaCroix was tormenting Nat? I should have 
called the other night. Of course, if that were the case, Nat would have 
told me. At least, I think she would. Could it be that she was still angry    
about what happened before I left town?" Nick shook his head, "No, it 
couldn't be that." 
  
     Still, he couldn't help but wonder if it might be true.

[Flashback] 
  
     Nick had just finished putting his suitcases by the elevator and was 
currently packing the bottles of blood he would need. He and his partners 
were leaving for the conference later that night. 
  
     "At least this time I don't have to come up with an excuse to tell Nat.   
I hate lying to her like that, but I just can't tell her the truth about.... 
my problem with her time of the month. It would probably frighten her. Worse 
then that, it would embarrass her. No, it's better to keep it a secret." 
  
     Nick heard the elevator lift and smiled. He knew Nat planned to stop by   
briefly before he left and since her monthly friend had not yet arrived, he 
was sure she would be fine. 
  
     However, after what happened next, he wished she hadn't come at all.
