| 10/2001 Thoughts on Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Current Season. (Ok so mostly on Willow, so sue me) Willow is slowly going over to the dark side, whether because of outside influences or from her quest for more power is the question at this point. Some things to ponder: If she has the power to raise Buffy from the dead, one would think that it'd be easier to cast a spell to find out where her soul went to in the first place. Further I'd think it'd even help in the casting of the resurrection spell if you could point it to the correct plane/dimension in the first place. As argued by a friend of mine though, Willow didn't care where Buffy was really, Willow just wanted Buffy back in the land of the living. The rest of the gang probably would have been interested in at least knowing where Buffy's soul/spirit ended up, but lacked the resources/knowledge (except for maybe Giles) to do so. On some level Willow does know what she's doing it at least questionable, otherwise she'd not have lied to Tara about where she went to get the 'last ingredients on the black market'. Also just a stunning scene having her dressed in a pure fashion to get the fawn to approach etc, and then killing it. Spike has said there with magic there's always a consequence. I wonder then what price Willow has paid for the powers she had in fighting Glory. Granted I might have missed that price. Further you have to wonder what would the effect be if a mortal mind directly contacts a divine one. Take that a little more and add in an Evil Chaotic divinity's mind. Thus Willow already tainted by her use of dark magics was likely more susceptible to any evil taking root with her contact with Glory. In the end I think Tara will be key to Willow's fall from grace. Just Tara dying at the hands at a villian might be enough to push Willow into vengence mode and cast her soul in doubt. But even worse what if a spell that Willow casts ends up killing Tara.... So then if Willow completes her fall from grace and becomes Evil (or as some dream the alternate reality leather clad lesbian Vampire Willow, hey the got the Lesbian part, and well evil is close to Vampire) what then becomes of Willow? Does the gang kill her, does she run off (maybe start a new series in which she looks to redeem herself. Especially compelling in my mind is if Tara is dead at this point, and/or bringing back Oz to help her). Or if the Evil is an external force can the rest of the gang find a way to dispell it or suppress so that Willow can stay, which would lead to the "No more Magic For You!" idea. Finally I think it will be Xander who will first blow the whistle on Willow and her use of magic. He's already a bit wary of her use of magic. Dave Taue with some help from Erik Giberson. 5/21/2003 So long Buffy. Overalll I liked the series Finale. I'm a little surprised that they killed off Anya. Not that I particularly cared for the character (Emma Caufield though did a great job, and as a guy she's nice to look at), but still interesting. I guess it would have been too obvious to kill off Andrew. I'm looking forward to the next season of Angel. What with slayers potentially being around every corner, and Buffy being homeless there's a lot of fun things that can happen. That and I want to see how they bring Spike back. Good luck to the cast and crew of the show, I hope all goes well for them. And yes I want Firefly back on TV!!!! |
