Moroccan Arabic Language Courses

Moroccan Arabic (Darija) is the Arabic language as it is spoken and pronounced by the Moroccan people on the street, at home, in the market, etc. We provide classes at home in French, English, or Spanish.

Methods of teaching:

We have two methods of teaching foreigners the Moroccan Arabic language. The first method is the Romanization method; the second is the Arabic method.

1) The Romanization method

This method teaches the Moroccan Arabic language with the Latin alphabet (i.e. a, b, c,…, z).  It does not take a lot of time, so the student can improve his or her level of Moroccan Arabic in record time. We advise people who are in a hurry to choose the Romanization Method.

            2) The Arabic Method

This method uses the Arabic alphabet in order to teach good Moroccan Arabic; naturally, it takes more time than the Romanization method. We advise people who want to stay for a long time in Marrakech to choose the Arabic method.

Types of Courses:

1) The short course-

This course, considered the first stage of the Moroccan language program, uses the Latin alphabet.  People staying in Marrakech for less than three months can choose the short course.

The content of the short course-

This course is taught using books and cassettes. We will teach greetings, buying food, renting cars, getting around town, and Moroccan proverbs with the books.  We will also teach Moroccan culture, a summery of its history, and an overview of Moroccan ethnicities, and various Moroccan dialects. Each lesson’s vocabulary, sentences, etc. will be recorded on cassette so that the student will be able to review the lesson. In addition, we will play some Moroccan songs such as Ray music, Gnawi music, and others.

The length of the short courses-

40 lessons        1 hour 30 minutes/lesson

2) The intermediate course-

This course uses the Arabic alphabet. We advise people staying more than three months in Marrakech to choose this course.

The content of the intermediate course-

This course is similar to the short courses, but the intermediate courses use the Arabic alphabet. The program is the same as the short course but covers more vocabulary and grammar.

The length of the intermediate courses-

80 lessons        1 hour 30 minutes/lesson

3) The comprehensive course-

This course uses the Arabic alphabet. This course option is available for people staying in Marrakech for at least one year.

The content of the comprehensive course:

This course covers much more Moroccan Arabic than either of the other two course options. The course covers social Darija, economic Darija, and cultural Darija. At the end of this course, students will be able to easily carry on a conversation with Moroccans.

The length of the comprehensive course-

120 lessons      1 hour 30 minutes/lesson
