"She Had a Dream"
By: Betty Glass
Back in the thirties, a young girl was intrigued by the sequel to "The Bobbsey Twins", a series about a young college girl and Tri Delta Sorority.  She dreamed that one day, like her heroine, she too would go to college and be a Tri-Delt.  In High School she became involved with the "Y" Organizations and devoted her energies to opening up the membership to All girls.

She came to college with some negative thoughts about selective organizations and she gave little thought to sororities.  That is, until she began to meet some of the members and discovered that these were the "doers", the campus leaders, the scholars, and the all around great girls!
During rush she heard of plans for the Theta and Kappa Nationals to come on campus, but her first choice was Sigma Upsilon Nu (established 1933).  She never really forgot her dream though, and as a freshmen pledge asked the question "Why not a national for Sigma Nu?"   The upper classmen ignored her idea, but she persisted.  Finally, to get her off their backs, they told her to write and see what she could find out, she wrote of course to Tri Delta.
She also contacted Pi Beta Phi and one other.  Correspondence continued, interest grew, decisions were made and negotiations began with Pi Beta Phi.  As you might expect, she was given the task of editor of the formal petition to Pi Beta Phi!
It began with a pre-teens' dream  and culminated with the establishment of the CT Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi at the University of Connecticut in 1943.  We owe a debt of gratitude to Laura Anidiso Belfiore, our sister "Dizzie" and her dream 57 years ago.
