DA-PCC launch outstanding dairy buffalo contest

The Department of Agriculture through the Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) launch the outstanding dairy buffalo contest to give recognize the contribution of Dairy cooperatives and farmers to the development of small-hold dairy enterprise in the country.

 

According to Mr. Arn Granada, OIC-Director of PCC at West Visayas State University (WVSU) the search will encourage dairy cooperatives and their members to continuously improve their systems on organization management, animal management, recording and other aspects of dairy enterprises.

 

This undertaking will institutionalize an incentive system on successful cooperatives and farmers in showcasing dairy enterprise as a stable source of additional income for many families in the countryside,” Dir. Granada said.

 

The three categories of the search are Best Dairy Cooperative, Outstanding Dairy Animal and Outstanding Dairy Farmer. The outstanding farmer category was also divided into three sub-categories namely Semi-commercial, family module and small-hold dairy farmer.

 

The criteria for selection for best dairy coop includes functional set of officers (15%), organizational systems and procedures (30%), organized collection and delivery system for daily milk production (25%) and over-all herd management (20%).

 

For outstanding Dairy farmers criteria includes herd management (30%), over-all physical condition (10%), surroundings (10%), facilities (10%), Productivity (30%) and milk collection and delivery system (10%) while the outstanding dairy animal will be evaluated based on milk production (40%), Type trait/conformation (50%), and Dairy character/temperament (10%). All in all for the total of 100 percent.

 

A cash prizes of P30,000 for best dairy cooperative, P20,000 for best dairy animal (Junior cow), P30,000 for best dairy animal (senior cow) and P10,000 each for outstanding dairy farmers sub categories plus plaques of recognition will be given to all winners.

 

the PCC is currently assisting more than 2,000 dairy farmers belonging to 95 dairy cooperatives in the regional and national impact zones.
