D.J.P.T.

From Davipedia: The Free Encyclopedia

D.J.P.T is a group of guys from Wichita, Kansas that hang out regularly. D.J.P.T is an acronym for the first names of each member: David Nguyen, Joshua Akins, Paul Pechin, and Tony Khuu. The letters could be rearrange and doesn't need to be in any particular order. DJPT was most-liked because when said out loud, it pronounces as "Deejay Petey". David, on more than one occasion, has used Deejay Petey as an alias when waiting for tables at restaurants or something. The acronym is now used regularly.

Tony, Josh, Paul and David all went to Curtis Middle and Southeast High School. Tony and Josh knew each other since elementary school. Tony, Paul and David had Spanish in high school together; Tony and Paul had math classes together; David and Josh had college courses together; and so on. Josh and Tony knew each other since elementary school.
The four were separated and didn't start hanging out again until Spring Break of 2006, right in the middle of their college lives. Before then, Josh and Tony hung out a couple times together and Paul hung out with David. Josh and David didn't hang out but had a class together and occasionally talked outside of class. And all of their social lives were kept to a minimum.
In the beginning, the hang outs weren't planned carefully. The group originally would meet up and spend hours asking each other the same question: "What do you want to do?". As time passed, this habit declined. The conversations and arguments between them have proven to be humorous and entertaining. For example, Josh's younger brother, Eli, had a blast watching the four guys yelling at each other while playing on Josh's Nintendo Wii. David's sister, Christine, has also enjoyed listening to their recorded conversations. David has also observed people grinning at their talks while at grocery stores and other public places. These days, the four would go to more social events and agreed to not eat at the same place twice.

MEMBERS

David Nguyen

David never goes anywhere without a camera. David cherishes the time he spends hanging out with the guys. He believes his time hanging out with Tony, Josh and Paul won't last long due to each other's hectic schedules and his possible future in the medical field. David is known to be the most outgoing and expressive out of the entire group. He's a bit of a ladies' man although he tends to sabotage his relationships due to fear of committment and just for the heck of breaking someone's heart. He's a heavy collector and is in love with a fictional character, Alice from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". David tends to annoy the others by pulling them aside if he sees something worth taking a picture of.
David graduated from college in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He minored in Sociology and Mathematics. He hopes to be in med school in the near future. During his college years,
David was President of the PSA (Pre-Medical Student Association) at WSU, a temporary Web Designer for ASC (Asian Student Conference) and the treasurer of the Student Health Advisory Committee. Since the group started hanging out, the only job (where he got paid) to work was the Disney Store. After his time with Disney, David began shadowing doctors and volunteering for various organizations. David's lack of tipping in restaurants and rudeness towards waitresses have always caused awkwardness in the group and thus they never return to eat at the same restaurant. On the other hand, because of this, they always have to find a new place to eat and therefore give them a chance to explore the city.

Joshua Akins

Josh can easily be considered the most motivated in the group. His life is also the most interesting and the center of attention for most conversations. Everytime he hangs out with the guys, there's always something interesting to talk about thanks to Josh. David believes that out of the four, Josh would be the first of them to get married. This almost became possible at the end of 2008. In Wichita, Josh had an endless quest for the perfect job, scheduling one job interview after another.
Josh loves Dragonball Z and has a younger brother, Eli. Josh loves video games and wishes to one day be part of the video game industry. Josh attendedvideo game tournements and won a few! During his later college years, he studied hard in school. Josh graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and hopes to one day make video games. Video games are his passion! His degree has an emphasis on Sociology. In 2009, Josh moved to Dallas, Texas to attend a two-year game program at The Guildhall in Southern Methodist University. He continued to keep in touch with the others by Email. There have been plans among the other three to come down and visit him.

Paul Pechin

Although the two continually bicker, Paul and David are best friends. David and Paul went seperate ways when they went to college but continually kept in touch through Emails. Before the four of them got together, David and Paul hung out at each other's houses watching movies and having lightsaber battles. Paul and Tony argue back and forth over small subjects. Paul's the only one of the four that did not attend Wichita State University full-time. Paul went to Kansas University in Lawrence where he was a committee member for a year in SUA (Student Union Activities). He hosted a game tournement while he was there.
Paul is similar to Josh, he enjoys playing video games. His interests include watching movies, playing foosball against Tony and working. Paul has a degree in Computer Engineering.
Paul became the vice-president to a social website that he worked extremely hard on. Paul is usually very shy but very nice and sweet. He is arguably the most busy and hardworking of the four. Paul graduated from Kansas University but remained in Lawrence to work and occasionally returns to Wichita to hang out with the others.

Tony Khuu

The one member who has evolved and improved the most through the years was Tony. Tony's been the central core of the group, usually initiating the hangouts. Usually, his house is the meeting spot. After David moved to his new house, the central headquarters transferred from Tony's house to David's. He has a couple of cute dogs that go berserk whenever the others come over. His first dog is named Lucky. His second dog, a terrier, was named Meno.
Tony is studying business and accounting at Wichita State University. For years, he worked as a manager at Fusia in Towne East Mall. He was very unhappy with his job and finally quit in March of 2007 (after numerous trials). For several months, he worked in real-estate with his aunt. Tony spent months to finally have his ideal job working at the U.S. Post Office, which he's very proud of. Initially he was very lazy with a lot of potential. His skills have picked up. He does mental math relatively fast.
Tony tends to say sarcastic remarks, tease the others, and complain a lot but the amount of complaining has declined over time. Usually, thanks to Tony, the group actually has something to do. He takes the others along to run errands and makes the day less boring.
It was a surprise that's worth it because, despite his sarcasm, Tony is a great aspect to the team.

Unofficial Members

If each hangout is considered an episode of a television series. Then these people would be considered the "recurring characters". Among them is Trent , Josh's friends who he goes to play video games with. Trent sometimes become a topic of conversation and has joined Josh, Tony and David on more than one occasion to hang out.
Tony's always happy when the others come by because it makes Lucky and Meno, Tony's energetic dogs, tired from jumping and running, and thus giving them a good night's rest. Tony has complained that he has a gay dog and a horny dog (Meno). Tony's uncle, Johnny, has joined the group for a few hang outs also. David started a trend among the group where they call him "Uncle Johnny" that slightly annoys Tony, seeing as not even Tony calls him Uncle Johnny.

A couple times, a friend of David and Paul's, John Breiner, has joined them in hanging out. It's been joked that after Josh left for school in Texas, John replaced him as the J in "DJPT". He's like the Newman to their Seinfeld group. John has remained a "recurring guest" and a topic of conversation due to David's continuous conversations with him online. David, John and Tony have hung out, had meals together and had cardio workouts together.

HANGOUT SPOTS

Public Places

After their first day of Spring Break in the mall, the four had their first hang out at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart later became one of their biggest hang out spots to pass time so they can figure out what to do. Besides Wal-Mart, Best Buy is another place that they usually go to pass the time.
They went to All-Stars Sports once and almost got lost (and into an accident). The four has also eaten at many sit- down restaurants including... BG Boltens, Red Robins, Olive Garden, Dairy Queen, McDonald's, Burger King, Kwan Court, Ryan's, On the Border... etc. A usual hang out would be going to eat at some sit down restaurant, walking around Towne East/Wal- Mart/Best Buy, driving around, watching a movie/play video games and then calling it a day.

Working Out

When Paul's around, he and Tony used to go to the YMCA to work out in the mornings. When Paul's gone, Tony, Josh and David tend to work out weekly to every other day at the Wichita State University Heskett Center. Working out at WSU's Heskett Center included running cardio, the circuit room, and running laps. Later, due to Josh's schedule, only Tony and David worked out but this time with John Breiner.

Final Friday Downtown Art Crawl

On the last Friday of each month, downtown Wichita puts on an event where artists from all around would display their artwork for Wichitans to see. At the same time, food and beverages would be provided and Trolley rides are used to transport people from one area of Downtown Wichita to another. Tony, Josh and David discovered Final Friday by accident after a movie in Old Town during the summer of 2007 and have tried to attend it as often as possible. Usually, they would start in Old Town and take the trolleys to places such as the Exploration Place, City Arts, The Wichita Art Museum, The Wichita Ice Center, The African American Museum and the Plains Indian on the Arkansas River. When any of the guys have an opportunity to go on a date, usually they jump at the chance to take their respective ladies to Final Friday.

The Lawrence/KS City Trip

The group rarely takes trips outside of Wichita, twice, they've gone to the State Fair in Hutchinson. And each month they stop by Downtown Wichita for the Final Friday Art Crawl. In June of 2008, Josh had a job interview in Lawrence that gave the group an opportunity to visit Paul at his apartment and go to a casino in Kansas City. The following is the journal entry David wrote about the trip:

"Today, we're going to Lawrence so Josh can have his job interview at a place call Microtech. It took us an hour to get out of Wichita because we stopped by QuikTrip and Dillons on the way out. On the way, we got into this horrible hail storm. We were crazy because other people were waiting out the storm and sitting by the side of the road and we're just zooming through. We got there an hour early. While Josh was having his interview, Tony and I waited in the car. After the interview's over, we called up Paul and drove to his house. Paul knows the area very well, possibly more than Wichita! He led us to his dinky apartment where we stood around waiting for him. He drove us to the KU campus where we walked around and toured the library and all that. There were lots of stairs!!! After that, Paul drove us to a place call "Paisanos" and had all-you-can-eat pasta. It was a filling meal. Then we got into an argument about who's driving to Kansas City because we want to stop by the Ameristar Casino up there. We just walked around and ate ice cream and spent all our time in the arcade. We played "Deal or No Deal" over and over again and got a good deal of tickets from it too! We ended up giving it to some kid. We left Tony at the casino since he wants to gamble and then Josh and I went back to Wichita. "

The Florida Trip

For the longest time, the four have planned to do a big trip to celebrate their success of graduating from college and to commemorate their time together. After long discussions and arguments, the four agreed to go to Orlando, Florida to visit places such as Disney World and Universal Studios. The four finally went on this trip in the summer of 2008. They spent 5 days away from Wichita and stayed in a hotel in Kissimmee, Florida. Josh was the main driver and David navigated for Josh the entire trip. This trip brought them closer together as friends seeing as they had good times and bad times together. The following is a blog entry on David's Facebook/MySpace about the trip:

"DJPT's Adventures to Florida
by David A. Nguyen

My bros and I just got home from a week-long trip to Florida where we visited the beach, went to Disney World and Universal Studios. We had an amazing time! The weather was beautiful and lady luck was on our side the whole time. I know it sounds fruity, but this trip definitely made us closer friends.

Day 1 - Plane Day
We woke up early to get on the plane. Once we got to Florida, we got our rental car, checked in with our hotel, and ate.

Day 2 - Beach Day
We drove to Cocoa Beach, which was recommended by the locals and had fun in the sand and sun. We buried each other, swam in the water and ate at the restaurants that served for $40 a plate. The only bad thing from this day is that I got a sunburn.

Day 3 - Disney World's Magic Kingdom
This was the climax of our trip. Disney World's Magic Kingdom wasn't busy at all! We probably did 2 days worth of activity in just 5 hours. One of my friends, who went to the Magic Kingdom before was amazed at our progress. By lunchtime, all the rides we wanted to go on, we went on. The best part for me was meeting Alice! Seeing Alice was the first thing we did when we got into the park. After that, it was fun until the end of the fireworks.

Day 4 and 5 - Universal Studios
Our hotel had a nice deal where we pay for a one day ticket to Universal Studios and get a second day for free. The lines were longer here but the rides are a lot more exciting. The Simpson's Ride and the Mummy Rides are definitely recommended.

Day 6 - Atlanta Airport
We missed our 6AM flight and was stuck at the airport for 15 hours. It was a loooong day!! Oh man! We were supposed to be in Wichita by 10AM. But we never got back until nighttime. We saw the sunrise and the sunset from the same airport. What an end to our trip.

David the Ladies Man
During the whole trip, I was hitting on almost every waitress and line buster we come across. Got some Email addresses, got some Myspaces... Got some pics too! Who knew I was so lovable."

Media Series

David has begun, but abruptly stopped, a series of comic strips that features the four of them as characters. So far, there has only been 4 or 5 strips. Everyone's pretty satisfied with their looks. Tony has commented that Josh looked too cool. Paul has set one of the strips as his Facebook picture once.

David and Tony have Youtube accounts and David has uploaded many videos of their hangouts and little "adventures". By the end of December 2008, all four of them officially have Facebook accounts. David will accept any friend request sent to him. Videos, pictures, and stories show up on Facebook and Youtube, mainly from David.
