10/27/07 A Letter from David to Paul Hey, Paul! Here's the latest update on our group. I wish you were here for this one. On Saturday, we decided to go to a corn maze in Haysville instead of Asian Festival as planned. Tony and I went to Trent's house, where Josh was currently residing. There were nine (9) of us that rounded up at Trent's house: Trent and his girlfriend Kim, John Dye and his girlfriend Natalee, Natalee's brother Collin and a foreign exchange student (Val) from Germany that's staying with Collin and Nat's family. And of course the three of us.
I brought my camcorder because it could take pictures in complete darkness. It was around 8PM when we left Trent's house.
Josh, Tony and I squeezed in the back of Trent's car, which is actually your car only with red paint and a louder engine. So we were cramped! Trent and John sat in the front. Everyone else went in Kim's car.
It took us ~20 minutes to get to Haysville. It was grown on some farm and once we were finally there, we ran into some trouble: They only took cash. Admissions was $10 but Kim downloaded coupons off the net so we only have to pay $8. Tony, Kim, Collin & I were the only ones with cash, so we chipped in to pay for the others. We'll figure out how to repay each other later.
Once everyone is stamped to enter, we started. The maze was 15 acres. And the corn was like 7 feet tall. And it was pitched dark (Yes, we brought flashlights). It was creepy! We had some people jump out at us and some idiots launched some corn at us from some mysterious distance. There were a lot of people there.
The night was terribly cold and of course, we got lost in the maze. Trent and John ran off with the map somewhere and left the rest of us lost in the maze. Somehow, we managed to get out of the maze before they did.
There were two different mazes in the entire farm and we went inside the bigger of the two. It took us an hour and a half to get out. We would've gone in the smaller one but Val lost his glasses while running so we had to go back to report it. There were tractors with trailers that take us from the other side of the maze back to the entrance.
We were all cold and hungry after we got out of the maze, so we decided to go to the closest IHOP. Our shoes were covered with mud and dirt. Tony said the whole experience was "mildly entertaining". It was pretty fun. Getting lost and split up in the maze was part of the adventure.
Poor Val. He had orange juice right? Well, you know how "Juice" sounds a lot like "Jews". Collin made a few jokes because Val was from Germany. He was like "Hey, look at the German drinking his 'Jews'" How mean! Everyone started laughing. We also decided that John and Natalee would pay for me and Tony's meals since we payed for them to enter the corn maze. So everything's evened out now. :)
Well, that's the latest update, Paul. Hope you enjoyed reading this. :) It's not the best experience ever since it was cold, dark and scary... but it's something we could do in the future.
See ya! [END] |
