Outside the houses of Rich Valley it was very dark and the wind blew very, very strongly. It whirled up big clouds of dust. The dusty streets weren’t very well illuminated, because most lamps were broken. Nevertheless the houses of rich families shown in the dark night. And inside the houses there was a wonderful atmosphere. People were singing in every house. Others drank and enjoyed themselves. Nice sounds flew through the air. But there was one house where the atmosphere wasn’t very good. It was Rose’s house . She was sitting at a small chair and was reading an old book. Sometimes she stood up and fed her dog and her two cats. Then she sat down again and read again in her old book. She was a very young and beautiful woman with long hair. Certainly she was very poor and the only poor one in Rich Valley. She stood up again and said to her pets: „Soon, I will be very rich. I know that." She stroked Timmy her dog. Suddenly a tear ran over her cheek. Then she went to bed.
At this night some robbers were sitting at a table in a dark room which was only illuminated by two candles. They played with dirty cards. One of the robbers said: „Yes, I’ve won the game again. You’re silly losers." It was Jonny the killer. He was the leader of the „Rifle and Gun Boys" short the „R.A.G.-Boys". Jonny was Jack’s brother. Jack was really a good and helpful person. He had brown hair, blue eyes, but wasn’t very strong. He was a member of the R.A.G.-Boys, because Jonny the killer had blackmailed him. He had said that he would kill him if he didn’t join the R.A.G.-Boys. He had been living in Poor Valley since his birth. Poor Valley was the opposite of Rich Valley. In Rich Valley there were only clouds of dust, but in Poor Valley there were big waves or better said big killer waves of dust, sand and other things which smelled. The houses were broken. Jonny said: „Hey, guys! You know what will happen today?" Jack wanted to say something, but Jonny was faster and hit him with his fist in the face and said: „Don’t say anything when I’m talking to you. Do you understand me?" „Yes, Jonny" „Shut your mouth!" He hit Jack again. Then he said to the others: „Take your guns, but quickly! - You too Jack!" Jack said: „Jonny, are you sure? What you are doing here?" „I said shut your mouth and take your guns! Do you hear me, boy?" „Okay, but don’t say I haven’t warned you."„You will do what I tell you! Yes or no?" Jack couldn’t say anything. „I asked: Yes or no? Give me an answer?" „yy----yyyy—yes." „What did you say?" „Yes!" One of the men said: „Jonny, here are the guns. Where must I put them?" „Next to the door!"
The sheriff was sleeping in his office. His name was Bill. He was a weak man with a white beard. He was a very small person. Suddenly a shot woke him. He fell down from the chair. Then he stood up and ran into the direction where the shot had come from. Two minutes later he saw the bank. Then a shot again. He noticed that the bank had been robbed. He followed a robber who came out of the bank. He caught him but the other robbers ran away. He asked the robber: „Hey, tell me your name!" „J-J- -Jack, my name is Jack." „Who are the others?" „Other members of the R.A.G.-Boys." „Who are the R.A.G.-Boys?" Jack didn’t give him an answer. „I asked you something. Please give me an answer." „I don’t know. I really don’t know." „That isn’t true, but now you will come with me. You will go to prison."
It was very cold in the prison. Jack only got bread and water to eat. He was so frightened and he hoped that the others would take him out of the prison. But a few minutes later he gave up his hope and cried. Then he shouted: „Let me go! Let me go! I haven’t done anything." Somebody came and said: „Shut your big mouth or you will be killed." „I haven’t done anything." „Shut up!"
It was night and Jack couldn’t sleep. He only sat on his bed. Then somebody said: „Hey, you!" It was Jonny. He broke out the grating. Jack was so happy. „Thank you, Jonny. Thank you. I knew that you would help me." Jonny hit him and said: „Be quiet! You will wake up the watchmen." „Okay, okay." They rode away.
The next day everybody was shocked. Rose wanted to buy something in town and came across a WANTED! Poster. She read: „Wanted! Jack the robber, alive $50.000, dead $25.000." Then she went farther. She bought a bit of food. Then she went home. On her way home she met Jack. „Hey, you are the one who robbed the bank, aren’t you?" Jack wanted to run away but she said: „Come with me! I won’t take you to the sheriff." „I don’t understand that." „You are too beautiful to sit in a prison." It was love at first sight. They went to Rose’s.
One week later the sheriff heard that Jack was at Rose’s home. He went to Rose and knocked on the door. Rose looked through a window next to the door. „Quickly, Jack! It’s the sheriff. Hide under the bed and be quiet." Rose opened the door. „Miss, I heard Jack is here." „Who is Jack? I don’t know anything about a man called Jack." Bill went into the house and looked for him. Then he looked under the bed and saw Jack. „Miss, I thought you didn’t know a man who is called Jack." Jack said: „I was blackmailed by my brother Jonny, sir. He said he would kill me if I didn’t agree to be a member of the R.A.G.-Boys." „Is that really true?" „Yes, sir. It’s really true. I want to apologise." „Okay, you are free." „Oh, how can I thank you?" „You can tell me where Jonny is." First Jack thought but then he told Bill where Jonny was.
Jonny and the other R.A.G.-Boys were caught by Bill. Rose and Jack had a wonderful life. After two years their first child was born. His name was Dave. Later they had another child called Jenny.
