The Shadow Zone

Chapter Zero

Seven years ago: The door to the cabin burst open and a young sabercat stumbled in, covered in bandages and leaning on a crudely constructed crutch. Despite this he seemed happy. His family rushed to his aid as he stumbled to the floor.

Helping him over to the couch they noticed that he was clutching something in his hand. Also that his gauntlet, which resides on his left arm had been practically destroyed and was held on by a bloody bandage, a tattered vine, and dumb luck.

All he could mumble as they placed him on the couch was: "I got one! I got one!"

Before his eyes closed he looked her right in the eyes, whispered: "I got one" a final time and passed out. His hand relaxed and opened, allowing her to see what he was so happy about; in his hand gleaming in the soft light was a power gem.

Today: Deep in a forest of mysterious and dangerous creatures is Shadows Peak. Deep inside this mountain of fire and rock is the chamber of crystals. Deep inside this cavern lies a deadly man who is definitely in league with the ‘Darc side’.

With a start he awakens and looks around the room as if from and exciting dream and he’s trying to recognize his surroundings. Then a smile slowly crosses his face as he remembers where he is and what the dream was about.

"I just had a premonition," he said to the empty room as he swung his feet off the bed and stood up "I think you’ll enjoy this one, it’s about our old friend the gem thief"

With this his shadow which had been stretched across the room by the glow of the crystals in the walls trapping a small mouse in the corner slid across the floor to its owner and perked up at the news. (I guess the room wasn’t that empty after all, was it?)

"I thought you might be intrigued" he continued as if his shadow hunting small rodents was a normal occurrence. "It seems that the paths of fate are at a crossroads, if we do nothing then all will be as it normally is here" at that the shadow yawned its mouth stretching it to 3 times its previous size, showing rows and rows of razor sharp teeth.

"Yes it has been quite boring here hasn’t it? But don’t worry. For if we play our cards right then he will return." And the same vicious smile crossed his face for the second time that morning. "And you will get to finish the meal you started seven years ago."

And the shadow did seem to enjoy this news greatly; it licked its claws thinking about what it only tasted many years ago. Then it followed its master down a tunnel his laughter echoing throughout the cavern, shaking the mouse out of its paralazation and into a tiny hole in the rock. Never knowing that it heard the beginnings of a plan that would drag somebody back into the place he could only describe as hell on Mobius.
