Darcey's Aspen Journal 2002 [Cont'd]
We were not thrilled about leaving Aspen as I am sure no one was, but we knew that we had to return back home.

Dear Journal,

Mum and I rested up, packed our things and then went to say our goodbyes. At Wagner Field, we sang together, we laugh together, [especially at the soccer playing dog.]  we cried together, but mostly we shared a special bond, a  love for a POET, a singer, a songwriter, a man who died at a very young age. A person who never did get to se his vision of "One World" come true and so far neither have we, but we are working on it and perhaps someday that dream will come true.
After everyone began leaving, mum and I went back to Little Annie's for all you can eat ribs. $13.00 not bad for zucchini stuffed cornbread, baked beans, cole slaw and 4 ribs the size of Fred Flinstone's steaks. After all that you can have more ribs, but for mum and I that was it. We could not, however, pass up small sundaes. When we were done, we went back to the our hotel to get everything ready for leaving.

Dear Journal,

10:00a.m.  Mum and I were sitting at the Limelite Lodge. We had already brought our suitcases down from our hotel room and they were outside on a bench. We had eaten breakfast and we were just relaxing, waiting to leave for the bus depot. I decided to go upstairs and see what our other partners were doing. Lynette, Floss, Meg, Beverly and Gloria were there so I took another picture. They then decided to go T-shirt shopping while I returned back down to the lobby.
11:00a.m.  Hans Jo, Trudy and Lynette brought the "4 on the Road" gang back to the bus depot. We had to take a detour to get there. We unloaded our multitude of bags and waited for the bus to arrive. I took my last photo, having to convince HansJo to get into the picture. He proceeded to finally do so and put up both hands for 'rabbit ears' for fun. I laughed and took the shot. Then I waited for it to develop. Hugs went all around as the bus pulled into the terminal. The "4 on the Road" gang was headed for home.
On the return trip we did not see anything much different from on the way to Aspen. Near the border of Illinois and Iowa I did see a building that had a plastic deer and moose on the roof. 2 days of travel and we were back in Penn state. Mum and I got off in Harrisburg as that was were our hotel rest up was for our return trip. I tried to get a room in York, PA, but due to a Lionel train convention all the hotels were full.

Dear Journal,

Mum and I ate breakfast in the continental room of our hotel. Bagels wth cream cheese, cereal, danish, donuts, coffee, tea and juice.  After we finished, we went back to our room where mum slept and I watched re-runs of the "Match Game" That was fun! For dinner, mum and I hiked up to Bob Evans restaurant. it was a nice country type place with good food. We made the hike back down to our hotel room and decided to order delivery food for the next day.

Dear Journal,

Mum and I ate breakfast again courtesy of our hotel. Then we went back to our room. There was not much to do as our hotel was located on a back strip of highway not near anything. Yesterday I offered to pick up a few frogs for my mum as I could hear them in the woods, but she declined the offer.  For dinner we ordered pasta from a local pizza place. That worked out good. No more hiking!
I called Meg at Floss's house and got the callwave answering machine. I left a message and Meg called us back, because we wanted to make sure she knew where we were staying for when she picked us up tomorrow.

Dear Journal,

Mum and I waited in the breakfast room for Meg to arrive.  She only had one re-route then she finally made it. The thermos was all ready with coffee and I packed bagels and cream cheese for the road.
We were on the road a long time and thought perhaps maybe we were lost, but all was okay even after we stopped to ask for directions. We made one stop on the NY state thruway and by 2:30 p.m. we were home in Schenectady. Mum and I said our goodbyes to Meg and thanked her for driving us, then she left for home. Soon we were unpacked and with our laundry ready for washing. We sat down to rest as our trip was finally over.
We are not sure about next year, but that is some time away. I can only tell you that Greyhound is not the best mode of transport. We did meet up with a terminal security gent with a thick Jamaican accent who tried to convince us to keep traveling by Greyhound and to go back to visit the land where Dorothy was from -- Kansas. LOL Perhaps if we do get to go, we will try ridin' the rails.  I hope you enjoyed reading about our trip.
                                                          Peace, Darcey
