The 2nd Annual JD Potluck Remembrance Day Picnic!
August 2002
This is my journal of what happened that day.
I wanted to let those who were not able to make it, know that we had a WONDERFUL time and I hope that more people will come next time.
I arrived and finding no one there yet started to unload and set up the picnic area we had decided to use. After we finished unloading sis Jo  took her leave. Nieces Kristina and Angel helped me to get set up. The tables were set up in a sort of semi-
circle and what started out as a sort of mess then turned into a semi-organized set of tables. We had 2 tables for food, 2 for other stuff and another on the far end.
Immediately my thoughts turned to playing a JD CD, which I did.  Sing Australia in fact which was so nicely sent to me from a JD friend of mine.  I like the CD very much, especially the song *In a Far Away Land*. I had name tags ready to be made, I had my JD CD and cassettes. I had my songlyricbook and my photo memory book and of course my JD memory book.
I brought some games in case anyone wanted to play them. We had a good time just sitting around listening to JD while talking and laughing.
There was 15 people all together which is 6 more than last year.  After a short time of  being there, people started arriving asking if anything needed to be done. The whole idea was to have a good time doing not much of anything.
We had plenty of food, great weather, great friends and JD's melodious tunes. Meg's Mom Barbara came and that is great as mine was out of town visiting her folks. We listened to JD CD's until
Barbara asked Paul S. if he would
play for us.
That was the best free concert I have ever been to.  I loved all 35 songs they played save for one. I don't know about how you all feel but, I have one JD song that does not thrill me and although I don't mind listening to it, I'd rather not. That song is GFB or *Grandma's Feather Bed*.
Paul aka Moose and Pete B. played together.  At first I was just a-clearing the table and talking to friends.  Next, I heard people call me and then I heard the strains of "Darcy" as it was being played. I had all I could do not to cry as the tears were so there, but it was so LOVELY. As always I loved hearing it.
We handed out our swaps and already I have ideas for next time.  Nope, I'm not telling!  I could not have asked for a better day!!  It was IN - CRED - I - BLE!!
Impersonations and tributes are the highest form of flattery there is.
Here are some impersonation and tribute artists.

What I want people to understand
is that I really take pleasure in
concerts that are not extravagant,
but that are simple and nicely
performed. I am not looking for an
all out Vegas bash.  I believe that
many singing artists have achieved
for me a high level of enjoyment.
