"The Zone is an ocean" Editorial by the "Aarcane Wizard" The Zone is an ocean, it's teaming with life. Not everyone here is your friend, although I do what I can. The people that come here to play have a wide range of motavations. Some to have fun and others to endorse value to there lives. Others come to make new friends and chat awhile, and still others just come to kill time. All that come here have goals. From time to time, you'll run into people here that make the zone an unfriendly place. You'll learn who they are in due time. I try to be agreeable to all even though I find it hard at times. The types of players that come here can be placed into sets that are much like the fishes of an ocean. Who you are and what you will be depends greatly on you and your expectations of this game. Shark= this person is someone that usually has too much time on there hands and has a real fast PC, running Win XP with an unregulated game clock. He's the type that would rather cut off his own penis than loose a game to anyone. Often suffering from "God" syndrome, this person will have scores that are 2 to 3 times as much as anyone elts in the game and also has 2 to 3 times as many deaths as well. They would never think of slacking off a bit or using a plane that they may not score double everyone elts in the game. I'm not sure why these people even bother to play as there dog could do as good a job. The only reason I can think of is that there real lives are so pathetic that this game is the only thing that gives meaning to there life as they know it. This person will never loose and if he does, he will either deny it or make up an excuse or even worse call you a cheat, so my advice is to learn there names and just avoid then all together. Baracuda= this person is very hard to beat, a worthy apponent and if you do win againts him, he'll tell you "that you did very well and next time, he'll make it harder for ya". He often will take a plane that will be equal to the other players skills in the game. You can tell he plays for fun and often would rather finnish a very close 2nd than win. He'll also do battles with just his gunz or take a plane that has less armor to keep the game closer and often will start using "just his gunz" in the middle of the game if he sees he's getting too far ahead. To him, the game is just that, "a game". He's not afraid to be helpful and is allwayz fun to play with. Marlin= this person is often someone that can be defeated, but gets very close to winning as well. He'll allways make a good game and usually doesn't complain about loosing. Games with these people can be very fun and rewarding in the fact that they can provide valuable flight time for anyone that is a newer player. Games with allot of these types of people in them can be the most fun games of all because they're never afraid to play just to play. Makeral= this person often comes in 4th place or less. He has some skill and doesn't mind loosing too much. He'll often ask for tips and does better as time goes on. He shows that he's kinda new and some day may become someone that will give you a good battle that you'll enjoy. This is a person that may be fun to use a handycaped plane with and will often show you a peek at what you looked like when you first started playing. Flounder= usually someone that is very new and has a very hard time just keeping the plane in the air. Still persistant, sometimes complains about one thing or another and will not give up just because they don't score well. He will often just keep trying with determination and with some tips/help can become a worthy apponent as well. These are the people that need some help and depending on who they run into in the game will either go on to become fun people to fly with or people that tried the game for awhile and got smacked down by "Sharks" so much that they leave and never come back. Eel= this person can be either a closet "Shark" or a "Flounder''. His main goal is to cause hostility among the other players. He usually doesn't fly much and has a foul mouth in the main lobby. Also has no help or tips for other newer players. You can see him serve up rudeness and vulgarities at the zone and has very few people that will engage him in conversation that isn't agressive and obsene. Just another person that doesn't deserve your attention. Perrana= you can tell these types because they often play in games together and will team up on you in games that aren't team games to start with. Some people in squads use this tatic if they're not so good. This type can be either good or bad depending on the reasons for doing it. If they do it just so there squad is the winners then it's not so good. If they do it to take on a "Shark", then it is good and doesn't necessaraly need to be members from the same squad involved. If you see a shark slip into your game, your best bet is to find a friend or two that knows how to use a "double team" and IM them before the game has started to set it up... if it's done in good faith the shark may still win, but not by as much as he normally would. Most times, you can see the conversation durring the game about the team work involved after the shark has realized he's being teamed up on. This chatter will be as if to say Ha Ha, lets see what you got rather than anger as the shark will welcome the chance to defeat two apponents working together. If it's done in contempt, then you'll see that it's usually all the members of that squad taking the top scores with the rest falling behind, and the chatter durring the game will be of much hostality and denial... In closing, I need to mention that you may find yourself being many different "fishes" in many different games. I hope you've found this little anollogy helpful and above all remember: This is "just a game" and the logic would be to just have fun, so if your not havin fun, then you do something about it. *Don't play games with someone you can never beat, don't play games that you can never loose.* If there all that good, they'll handycap ya if you say you need one and if your all that good you should handycap yourself. I never go into a game thinking I'm gunna win... I go in thinking "I think I can get 2nd." It makes the game allot more fun and shows that I had to actually try. Good Luck to all and I hope to see you "up there" as well. Aarcane
