The Pasts We Wish We Didn’t Have: Part 9

Lucifer smiled and said very calmly, “That is enough.” Lorelei waited as the poor wretched human boy was led out of the room, he was hunched and crying.

“I love gay bashers,” Lucifer commented as he stood to pull up his leather pants. “They always give the best head.” Lorelei didn’t respond, just smiled. “Your lover is coming.” He told her.

“I have no lovers, but yes, I know Duo is coming to this place, very soon. He has come to get Wufei’s lost light.” She turned to look outside the widow, down to Hell below.

“You and I have made a deal.” He stood to grab her shoulder and smell her red hair, his white, featherless wings folded behind him.

“I know.” She said distantly and smiled, “Don’t worry you’ll get what you want.” She was distracted, watching the human terror below was pure ecstasy for her.

Lorrie was hunched on the platform, hand around her stomach. Her tears fell onto hard gray stone. Duo slowly walked into the ceremony room, he stood watching her. She was the one to break the silence.

            “You remember everything don’t you?”

Duo nodded, then realized she couldn’t see it, her back was to him, he cleared his throat and said, “Yes I remember everything.”

“Then why, why did you…” she couldn’t finish.

He thought for a moment, “We need to go, Lorrie, we really need to go.”

“Please just answer the question, Duo.”

There was another uncomfortable pause, “On Earth there is this concept, that one moment can shape your entire outlook on life, maybe my life on Earth is that moment.”

She shook her head, “We are not humans, Duo.” She turned to look at him, he knew all of the implications from saying such a thing, but he didn’t explore them in his mind, he knew she was merely stating a fact. Then she straightened her back and left the room.

“You guys can’t come. Hell is a prison for all mortals who enter it. However, you can go back to Earth and wait for us with Wufei, when we return with the light Lorelei took from him we will be able to heal him.”

Michael placed a hand reassuringly on Quatre’s shoulder. Four angels came forward to take the four humans back to Earth. Quatre kissed Michael on the cheek before he left, then hugged Duo. When all the good-byes were said the eight disappeared in flash of light.

“Michael, are you sure you want to--”

“Yes I am sure.” Michael looked at Duo’s father, his eyes determined. Lorrie stared dimly at a wall, one arm holding the elbow of the other. Her eyes were filled with tears. “Come on Lorrie, we should go to Earth as well.” His voice was soft, but it snapped her from her thoughts.

            “You’re not going with them?”

The old angel shook his head, “This is a battle they should fight.” He took her hand and they disappeared in light as well. Duo turned and looked at Michael. “Are ya ready?” He asked, gaining the big fake smile he had wore before Gundam battles.

“No.” Michael replied, returning the look, “But we really should be going.”

“Yeah I guess.” Duo sighed and then they disappeared from the angel world, and went straight to human Hell.

There was the sensation again, but Duo had gotten used to it now. Then they were standing on the path to the jagged castle of Hell. The smells of blood, sweat and burning flesh surrounded them. And on either side of the path were masses of humans. These humans were in mental, physical, and emotional horror. The sight sickened Duo and he turned awestruck to Michael, they exchanged horrified glances, but then each made a mental note that these humans had to have done something absolutely awful for Heavenly Father to allow them in this horrible state and began the long walk into the castle’s doors.

Lucifer sat in his black, toothed throne. His deep green eyes watched as Michael and Duo entered the room. Neither Michael nor Duo bothered to bow to the Prince of Darkness. Lucifer smiled and ran a hand through his lose blonde hair.

“Hello Michael, it’s been a while.”

Michael looked him, his face set, “And whose fault is that, Luc?”

Lucifer smiled, “It has been a long time since someone has called me that. You see this demon over here,” he gestured at Lorelei, who was standing by his throne, “Mockingly she calls me the Son of the Morning.” He made a gesture with his arms. “But Luc, that is a name I have not heard in a long time.”

Lorelei smiled and Duo glanced at her. She was in thick black robes, and she was holding a lantern that had the ball of light within it.

Lucifer stood from his throne, his thin black clothing clung to his skinny body tightly. We walked up to Michael and raised a hand to touch Michael’s face, but Michael pulled away from his touch. “Maybe if you visited every once and a while…oh right, you’re trapped here.” Michael meant for the words to be a hurtful reminder of Lucifer’s punishment.

Lucifer smiled and turned from Michael and walked, almost as if drunk, to his throne, “Better to reign in Hell, the serve in Heaven, I guess.”

“I never understood why you hated them.”

“And I never understood why you defended them!” Lucifer turned angry to Michael and sat in his throne again, defiant. The two stared at each other. The room was overtaken by a long, uncomfortable silence.

“Please,” Lorelei said, walking from the side of the throne and towards Duo and Michael, “I didn’t come to Hell to listen to you two ex-lovers fight each other.” She was now beside Duo, “I have better things to do.” She looked at Duo then continued to walk towards the doors, they slammed in her face.

“Lorelei,” Lucifer called, his eyes aflame with hate and anger. “You will turn around and walk back here.” His voice was dangerous, the only person that wouldn’t back down from that voice, would be God Himself. Then he turned to Michael.

“Michael, I will give you the light if you remain here for two weeks.”

“What?” Duo and Lorelei demanded together.

“You heard me.” Lucifer regained his dealer’s guise. He sat back in his throne and folded his hands on his lap and smiled.

“This light is mine!” Lorelei insisted.

“Lorelei!” Dealer gave to Devil and then came back. “Well, come on, Mikey, give me an answer. Will you stay here for two weeks, in exchange for saving the mind of this human?”

“Lucifer we had a deal!” Lorelei demanded.

            “I am altering the deal.”

            “I’ll do it.” Michael said.

            “No, Michael!” Duo protested.

            “Duo…” Michael began.

“NO! I won’t give the light up so you can have your archangel back for two weeks, it’s not happening!”

“Lorelei, you will give that lantern to Duo.” Lucifer said.

“And Duo, you will leave with it right after.” Michael finished.

Duo was too shocked to protest, and Lorelei’s selfish desire to survive forced her to comply with Satan’s demands. Slowly she passed the light to Duo and quickly he disappeared.

“You bastard! You had no intention of keeping our deal!” Lorelei screamed at the Devil. Lucifer calmly stood and walked to Michael, and slowly raised his hand to touch Michael’s face, “You should know better than to make a deal with the Devil,” he told both of them.
