She entered the US, UK, European and Canadian Rhythm Radio markets in 2001
with her smash pop/ reggae single, "You So Fine", on three Promo Only compilations
that grouped her with artistes such as Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly and 'N Sync.
The single was the first of three releases that heralded the dawn of a new
era for Jana, breaking her sophomore album, 'Shadow Girl', that hits stores
in 2002.
Jana's debut album, 'Chase The Sun', released in 1999 on the Gypsy Music
label and produced by Rupert Bent III formerly of Grammy nominated, Third
World, was named ALBUM OF THE YEAR, 1999 by the Jamaica Observer, and the
hit single "Admit" became the Power 106 Pick Hit the day after her sizzling,
in- your-face performance on closing night at Reggae Sumfest 1999.
Mind-blowing performances leave Jana's audiences reeling with amazement
at the prowess of a seasoned performer, who has worked with the best in the
business. Jana has toured as a singer, choreographer, and dancer for Shaggy
(with whom she worked for a year and a half), Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley,
and The Wailers, to name just a few of her employers. She has also been
sought after to appear in music videos for Shaggy ("Boombastic" and "In
the Summertime"), Shabba Ranks, Terror Fabulous and Nadine Sutherland among
others, as well as a Coca Cola ad and music video both done with Japanese
pop star Toshi Kubota.
Jana received formal voice, theatre and dance training in Washington D.C.,
Toronto, and Jamaica, has taught Hip Hop and Modern Dance in Toronto. She
was the choreographer for Sandals Resorts International, creating and teaching
dance routines to the entertainment staff at every hotel in this international
chain and she founded Kingston's Pulse Modeling Agency Dance Troupe, for
which she was also the choreographer and instructor.
Jana is preparing her sophomore album, entitled 'Shadow Girl' for release
in the spring of 2002. Jana is collaborating with a number of other writers
and producers for this CD. Writers include Rude, (who was also featured
on Shaggy's 'Hotshot' album, in the track, "Not Fair") in the track "One
On One"; Herbie Harris of Third World who performs on the hit single "You
So Fine"; and singer, Andru Donalds ("Mishale" on Capitol Records and "All
Outta Love" on Virgin Records) for the track "Why Do I". Other contributors
include Jeremy Harding of 2Hard Records, who gained fame with Beenie Man's
"Who Am I (Sim Simmer)" and Nigel Staff, a writer on Shaggy's 'Hotshot' album.
