for all good that goes in my tummy....

Bottom line: a restaurant critique for all restaurants within a half mile radius of Southern and Mill, Tempe Arizona, as of November, 2003. The best part of my lonewolf wanderings (=

Each restaurant shall be judged on a 1-5 scale based on overall impression, food, atmosphere, and service.

I was walking around the area again today, not to eat, but to see what kinda fast food places were around.

Well, everyone knows these places, so I'll just get right to the point.

Now, I shall extend this to all the cool nifty restaurants I find, period. Yesterday, my roommate and I wandered around Phoenix and found this really cool Chinese Restaurant

Lunch buffet was about $7.15 (tax included) which was well worth it for the quality of the food and the atmosphere we were getting. I noticed that this restaurant was designed around the principles of Feng Shui, which ended up looking really cool. No windows, and the place looked like an old-fashion German bar, but the lack of windows and a seemingly low ceiling made a wonderful dim, intimate atmosphere, which psychological research shows, is the best atmosphere for whetting the appetite and making it seem the food tastes good.

My fortune read: Carve your name on your yeart and not on marble. Lucky Numbers: 26, 27, 30, 33, 36, 42
Behind it was: Please visit us at www.wontonfood.com

Score: 4

I also liked the screen walls that looked like those screen walls in those Chinese movies. And it looked cute how in those screen walls were plastic fruits and vegetables. The lighting fixtures were also very interesting; asian-looking with a modern quaintness to it. Then, the waterfall, and the fake flowers hanging on celing terraces, really hit the spot.

As for the food: excellent tasting Lemon Chicken; their fried goodies didn't taste oily and rancid, and their vegetable dishes had no MSG. I did taste it on the Chow Mein though, but it's only Chow Mein. Their egg drop and hot and sour soup was also very delicious.

So, the only reason why I'd be giving it a 4 is that it's hella far away from where I live! Lol, I'm tough ^.^

Well, actually, I'd kinda want to extend this page's purpose to all the cool, nifty things I've found wandering around. Like tonight, on Southern between Mill and Priest, I found a restaurant supplies outlet (maybe then we can have a real table), an Indian fashion outlet (finally, something ethnic, something different, and interesting), a manicure place (spa pedicures for only half the price I used to pay at Aveda), a hair salon (dunno...but will try), the half-price spay and neuter clinic (do I really wanna get Jujubee spayed?), and old late 1800's house turned museum, Chinese restaurant, a Massage clinic/school, an architectural firm, and a bar that plays cool, lonesome music (3 dollar drinks on Fridays)

Then wandering around last Saturday, I found another architecture firm in this run-down strip mall, the Italian delicatessen looks good, there's a church there?, and the thrift store I thought moved away, just moved to another part of the strip mall. Weirdos...

In other words, I miss being able to walk 10 minutes to a mountain, 5 minutes to a bookstore, and 3 minutes to a coffee shop, that's probably still open right at this late night hour. And part of my angst is 'caused by the little desire I have to wander around my new neighborhood. I just don't feel like I'll find anything. But tonight, I did (=

Ahh, but first things first: it would be interesting to do a review of all the restaurants within my area 'cause good eating places are like home plus 10 bucks.

Expensive. Good french fries~and they serve fillet mignon for about 20 bucks!! Eh, that stuff's good, but I'm a college student

SCORE: 3

This is not a place to go if tight on a budget. Furthermore, they serve fries and steak at a middle eastern restaurant that looks like it was a former Sizzler's or something. At least, the impression I got was that it wasn't authentic. The syrup of the baklava didn't stick in my mouth so strongly as I like it to.
