Badb CuChulainn's Bane |
The mortal hero CuChulainn was staunchly opposed by Badb the valkyrie swordmistress for trying to assume the role of a deity. She is one of the three major aspects of Morrigan, and her sacred symbol is that of the Celtic blade. As with all the Valkyrie goddesses, followers are both male and female, as the Hibernian prejudice of sexism does not exist as it does in Midgard or Albion society.
Banshee The Wailing Widow |
Believed to have been an elven maid who lost her love ages past to great villainy, the god spirit known as Banshee takes on many appearances. Her ghostly maidens that haunt Hibernia's sorrowful lands fortell death in a particular locale or family by the keening of her woeful shriek. There are few who follow the Banshee, but many who heed her call.
Flidais Celtic Artemis |
Flidais, the huntress figure associated with archery, the sanctity of the forests and wildlife therein, and the chase. Unlike her namesake from ancient Rome, her lustiness and sexual appetite is legendary. She can be seen in the forest, driving a chariot pulled by deer and accompanied by great stags. Her followers are strong and proud, and far beyond any sense of shame for their audacity.
Macha Lady of Battle |
Macha is the valkyrie with dominion over arms and armor, the power of defense for a strong offense. She is one of the three major aspects of the Morrigan and her followers tend to be valiant and staunch defenders of Hibernia and her people. She is a polar opposite to her sister Badb, herself a proponent of swordsmanship and offense.
Maeve Mystic Heart |
The third sister in the major aspects of Morrigan, Maeve lives within Tara, the mystical island in the heart of Hibernia. She represents courage and will, a gleaming soul to match the sheen of arms and armor. Followers of Maeve are the brave and bold, great leaders of armies, epic warriors in battle. But howsoever they shine in life, the candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long, and death finds her loyal followers quickly amidst sublime glory.
Nemain The Frenzy |
Nemain is the frenzy goddess, holding domain over sheer violence and brutality on the battlefield. Her and her followers hate the berserkers of Midgard and always detsroy them first during war. She was once a sister to the aspects of Morrigan, but disowned herself because of her uncontrollable tendencies and hatred for their periods of inactivity. Followers of Nemain believe in battle of all sorts, and always to the death. They never give their enemies quarter, nor expect any in return. It is better to die in battle this very moment than linger in rest for any time at all.
Eriu, Etain, Fotla Hibernia's Wives |
The three goddesses Eriu, Etain, and Fotla are considered the patronesses of all of Hibernia. Eriu was wed to the old Tuatha King MacGreine, while Etain, the second wife of Mider, was transformed by his first consort, Fuamnach, into a fly. She is the mother of Liban by an affair with Eochaid. Lastly Fotla is the Under-Earth goddess, holding domain over all Hibernia's caverns and married to the Tuatha King McCeacht.
