First Classic International Tournament of Chinese Lion Dance in Mιxico

 

All teams will register before 10:00 a.m.

The order of participation and  area assignment will be randomly in presence of each team leader; which will be at 10:30 a.m.

The inauguration of the tournament and the presentation of the teams will be at 11:00 a.m.

The competition initiates at 11:30 a.m.

Limited Time: Adults                  10 min. minimum / 15 min. maximum.

                        Children*          8 min. minimum / 12 min. maximum.

 

Each team will have there own equipment (lion, musical instruments, a base for the drums and gong, other accessories, etcetera) and bring them, before the event, where the tournament will take place.

The organizers will provide the basic equipment* only to those schools who definitely can not get there own.

1. - Number of participants

Each team will be formed by a maximum of 10 persons and a minimum of 6. The team can be formed by men and women and there is not an age limit. Each team will also be responsible of putting and getting of there equipment in the given time before there exhibition.

2. - Style and classification of the Lion Dance 

It will be South Lion Dance, using ground accessories, (stage design, “obstacles”, bench, tables or pillars). Also the lion will use them for climbing up during the exhibition.

3. - Norms corresponding to Pillars and Benches. 

The peak altitude is not restricted and there is no minimum measurement.

The stage design will have a space no more than 50 feet long  and  10 feet wide with no minimum

4. – Maximum competition time. 

The exhibition will be maximum 15 minutes long and 10 minutes minimum. 

Children under 15 years            Children: 12 minutes maximum y 8 minimum. 

If a team has participants with adults and children, they will participate in adult time.

5. – Contents of the exhibition 

At the “First Classic International Tournament of Chinese Lion Dance in Mιxico”, each group or school can choose freely, the contents, symbolism and nature of there routine, but they have to maintain the real concept of the Lion Dance.

The routine will have to contain a minimum 5 of  the expressions bellow:

Happiness                     Anger

Fright                           Sadness

Doubtful                        Drunk

Dreamy                        Still

Worried            Calm

 It has to include (for example) Kou Cheng (climb to receive the trophy) or Choi Cheng “Cheng Picking” (to harvest the green). Each group can be all the creative that requires for the montage or staging of there exhibition. It is necessary to take in count that to this tournament will assist a great number of public and participants. It is necessary to bring before the event a sketch or writing about the symbolism and concept of the routine in there participation: montage of the equipment and routine, each group will bring a document of the history and the title of the routine for there exhibition.

6. - Jury’s criteria                                                                                                                                

The appearance of the Lion, wardrobe, uniforms and courtesy …………0.5 points

The design of benches, obstacles or stage:

A coordinated use of the obstacles and benches……………………… 0.5points.

      c)  Title of routine or presentation must be obvious and coherent

With the routine…………………………………………………………..0.5 points

      d)   Form and way of the steps in the routine……………...............................0.5 points

Each team can have there own style, and even there own names, but the jury will                                                                                                          evaluate the obvious clarity and appropriate definition of the basic steps in the routine of the lion; horse posture, bow and arrow, in one foot,   a T step tall, a T step low, false step, step with a raised foot, feminine posture, unicorn step, etcetera.

Coordination between the participants of the dance:

 All the lion’s moves (head and tale) in the Dance will be noticeable coordinated during the exhibition…………………………………………………………1.0 points

Harmony between the lion and the music:

The lion and the music must be in coordination and in harmony and must participate in unison. The drum, the cymbals and the gong must express the state of mind and the movements of the lion…………………...…………………………………...2.0 points

Expression

The expressions and the lions move must be evident and demonstrate with clarity the              characteristic that they are doing: Happiness, Anger, Fright, Sadness, Doubtful, Drunk, Dreamy, Still, Worried, Calm, etc......................................................2.0 points

difficulty degree:

The routine must contain movements or steps with certain difficulty degree, without errors, new and well presented……………………………………………….3.0 points

7. – Deduction of points by errors/falls

a) Da Die: Mayor Fall (serious fail)…………………………………………-2.0 points

b) Zhong Die: A medium fall (obvious fail)………………………………..-1.0 points

c) Xia Die: A minor fall (small fail)………………………………………...-0.5 points   

At the event, if any team can not continue with there exhibition will not obtain a qualification or percentage. If during the exhibition an accessory of the wardrobe or uniform (belts, lion’s accessories or scaffolding) falls, this fail will cost 1.0 point.

8. – Deduction for maximum time of the exhibition 

Exceeds or reduces by 1 min. …………………………………………..-0.5 points

Exceeds or reduces by 3 min. …………………………………………..-1.5 points

The number of participants by team can not be more than 10 persons or less than 6 persons. Otherwise ……………………………………………….......-1.0 points

 9. – Jury

 The panel will be formed by 10 judges, two of them will omit the highest points of each team, two will omit the lowest points of each team and 6 judges will deliberate the final score.

The final sum of points minus the points that could be reduced will be divided in 6 which will give us the final score. The team who has the highest score will be the winner.

If there is a tie, the judges will look for the highest given and taken points, if afterwards, there is still a tie, then both teams will be gratified in which case the prize will be divided between them.

If a team can not enter correctly to the exhibition, by fails the team will not have score.

If by any reason one of the participants of the dance gets injure and it is consider dangerous to continue participating, the organizing committee has the right to consider finished there exhibition and to not give them a score.

At the end of each exhibition, the judges will show to the public and participants the score that was given to them.

If there are disagreements between the jury, the leader of the jury has the right to call to a meeting to all the judges until they get to an agreement.

The decision of the judges is the final result, there will be no appeal.

10. – Judges 

Each participating school can send a representative that can be a judge. There will be a brief explanation to establish the norms before the event. This person will not participate as a judge when his team is participating, but will be when the others are.

 If there is a fail in the previously establish, the decision of the judges as opposed to the fulfillment of the rules would be final. There will be no exceptions.

A professional behavior is expected at any moment of each group during the event.

If the rules were infringed in their totality, would be reason for definitive disqualification of the tournament.
