| A special message from Dan Hogg: Hey all - I figured I was due for a statement explaining myself. looking back at the updates from 2005 through 2007, I noticed that I haven't been updating a lot. I apologize for that. 2006 was probably my worst year, for personal reasons, and I was not up for updating. As of so far, 2007 has been a different story. I have very busy with school and work, and my life has been opening up for me after sitting around and being idle and depressed much of 2006. I plan to graduate this winter with a B.A. in accountancy, and I will take my CPA and either hop aboard an accounting firm or work my way up the RGIS chain as a fallback. There is also a possibility of a crosscountry move in 2008 or 2009, if I decide to start a relationship with Karen, a girl I met on FaceBook (a long long story in and of itself) who lives in Indiana. So as you can see, potential life changes ahead. That being said, I miss reviewing. I still listen to music very much, but there are many albums I have (downloaded, heh heh) that I have yet to listen to. I have been debating over whether I have become more of a song person than an album person, since I find it hard to sit through albums, but I have a lot of singles I love and listen to. Since I love this site and I wish to further network among the WRC community, I will try and make updates more often. Speaking of which, here are some changes in store for this site: 1. Further HTML editing. A big reason I abandoned this site unofficially was the way that it screwed up my quotation marks. Some pages I have fixed them with HTML jargon, others I haven't. But I want to make sure all my review pages comply with that new rule for quotation marks. I also want to make more consistent colors with my pages...right now they're sort of a random rainbow with no rhyme or reason. 2. One major confession I have not made yet: since 1999 I have kept a weekly Top 10 Chart of songs I like that week. I have Excel files for every year, and every Top 10 that week and a special Top 100 of the Year. My charts basically go off of how much a song is stuck in my head that week, how much I like it, etc. It's even less scientific than my ratings. I hope to provide space for links to each of these charts, probably on the main music page. 3. I broke the links to the Mix CD reviews. I plan to replace them with DellPod playlist song reviews. NOTE: DellPod is what I call the Dell Digital Jukebox, which is Dell's equivalent to the I-Pod. I have playlists of songs in groups like 'oldies' and 'Goodies in 2002,' which will replace the Mix CD reviews. I will not give songs a 1-5 score, just review each song. This year (2007) I have found myself listening to songs I liked when I was younger, and fully appreciating them in the context of musicality and my knowledge. Plus the aforementioned song-person tidbit. I want to get these playlists out ASAP, and add to them often. 4. More album reviews. I can't predict who I will go after in what order, but I will make an indication on the "Prospective Artists." 5. Some revisions of the other links on the music page, to update stuff. I don't plan on revising any of my original reviews, but that may come up as I feel need. That is basically what I want to do with this site. I hope to fulfill these promises and to keep providing an entertaining, interesting site. Thanks to everyone who has perused my site. Cheeseburgers to all, Dan |
