A Girl's Guide to...
Losing Weight
Want to know the secret to losing weight?  Are you sure you can handle the truth?

Wait for it...

Wait for it...

Ok.  Here it is:  stop eating so much!

I know, I know.  That's seems so harsh.  And insanely simple.  But there you have it.

I'm sorry, I don't accept those complaints I've heard "I barely eat anything and still can't lose weight."  Why?  Because those very words have come out of my mouth.  But after facing the cold hard facts, I have to admit that I actually do eat quite a lot.

Yes, some people do have physical issues and if you are one of them, then by all means make an appointment with your doctor and discuss it.  But if you aren't and you are just an excuse creator (I consider myself an afficiando of that pasttime), then read on.

Calories count.  Food combinations seem to work with a lot of people, but most of those diets are really based on a low calorie intake.  You just don't realize it because that isn't the focus of the scheme (yes, that's right, I'm calling those diet centers a scheme).

In fact, I propose that I could only eat candy bars for a month and still lose weight.  Healthy?  Hell, no!  But if you do the math, you'll see that 5 candy bars a day at 250 calories each adds up to 1250 calories.  With a current weight of let's say 160 pounds, I could lose 20 pounds in a matter of 3 months.  See the Fun Links section of our web page for the cool calculator I found...

**I think it's important that I add in a disclaimer at this point:  I AM NEITHER A DOCTOR nor NUTRITIONIST.  This is not medical advice and is only the opinion of a slightly insane girl.

Ok, back to my pedestal.  Where was I?  Oh, yeah.  Cease the calorie pile-up.

Actually, that's probably about all the advice I have.  I guess I could mention diet pills and other 'diets' like protein shakes, etc.  I think the benefit of those is that they help you feel fuller so that you don't eat as much.  Again, back to the calories.

And we can't discount the importance of exercise.  Benefits of getting up and moving seem boundless.  But you want to know what I really think?  Don't worry so much about weight!

I'll end this tirade with a stolen line from
Dodgeball:  "Here at A Girl's Guide To... we think you're great just the way you are, but if you'd like to lose a few pounds and get healthier, then drop us a line.  You're welcome here anytime."
