Ottoman War with Persia: Turks and Persians are at war, again.
The Ottoman player receives 1/2 income for the duration of the
war. In order to end the war, the Ottoman player must roll a
6 or higher on one die. Add 1 to the roll for every Brigade sent
to fight the Persians which become unavailable for the remainder of the
year.
Swedes load transports with troops under the command of General Schlippenbach
at St. Petersburg and sail to the Dvina River. Riga at the mouth of
the Dvina is under Russian control and blocks the transport fleet from
sailing up river. Because the Swede Transport Fleet is unescorted
by warships they cannot clear the port defenses of Riga and the Transport
Fleet is forced to sit at anchor ouin hex 1311. Due to poor communication
within the Swedish Admiralty the Swedish 2nd Fleet blockading Riga and
the mouth of the Dvina was not informed of the sailing of the transports
and was not given orders to clear the port for landing troops at Riga.
Austrian Archduke Charles commanding the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cavalry and 4th
Infantry Brigades marches downriver to lay seige to the fortress of Peterwardein.
General Heister commanding the 1st, 2nd and 4th Guards (14 guards) marches
out of Transylvania and lays siege to the fortress of Temesvar. Mehmed
commanding the I and II Anatolian Cavalry, Rumelian Cavalry (12 feudal
cavalry) march up the Danube enroute to Peterwardein. At Temesvar
their march is blocked by Austrian General Heister. Mehmed rallies
the garisson, 4th Janissaries, 4th, 18th and 19th Infantry Brigades (5
janissaries, 13 turkish infantry) at Temesvar and sallies out to attack
the Austrians in the field. Turk victory. Turks lost 4 turkish
infantry. The Austrians lost 2 guards and retreat to 0522.

Summer, 1706
In the West: Marlborough and Villeroi met with equal
forces at the battle of Ramillies (23 May 1706), and the French army
was forced from the field. Marlborough was able to occupy the Spanish
Netherlands (June-October), capturing most of the fortifications in the
area. The French also suffered setbacks in Italy. On 19 April 1706, Vendome
launched an attack with 100,000 men against a smaller Savoyard and Austrian
force. In Spain, the Spanish siege of Barcelona was abandoned (30 April)
after the French Toulon fleet was forced back into harbour. The French army
was then marched west to oppose an expected invasion of Spain from Portugal
under Lord Henry Galway. Galway's army successfully captured Madrid on
26 June 1706, proclaiming the Archduke Charles king. Meanwhile, the
English fleet was having success on the Spanish coast, capturing Cartagena
(1 June), Alicante (24 August) and Mollorca and Iviza (September).
Ottomans send two brigades to Persia, however they are unable to
bring the war to a quick conclusion. Ottoman-Persian war continues.
Swedish Transport Fleet off Riga sails north into the Gulf of Finland
and lands its troops at Narva under the command of General Schlippenbach.
The Swedish 2nd Fleet maintains its blockade.
Swedes under King Charles, commanding the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th
Guard Brigades (17 guards) march out of Narva to Pskov. At Hex1609 they
disperse the Russian cavalry screen, 6th Cossacks (1 cossack), which
retreats to hex 1510. Charles continues his march and occupies Pskov.
Czernowitz: Prussian General Anhault commanding the
1st Cavalry, 2nd, 12th and 14th Infantry Brigades (3 cavalry, 16 infantry)
and the Saxons under General Flemming commanding the 1st and 2nd Cavalry
and 2nd and 3rd Dragoons (8 cavalry, 8 dragoons) attack the Ottoman 3rd
Infantry (6 turkish infantry). Prussian-Saxon victory. Prussians

In the West: An initial Austrian retreat was stopped by
Prince Eugene, who then outmaneuvered the French, until he was able to
force the French to battle at Turin (7 September 1706), where he inflicted
a heavy defeat on the French after which he was able to expel the French
from Italy before the end of the year. Lord Galway was chased out
of Madrid by a French army under the Duke of Berwick in October.
Ottomans send a third brigade to Persia. The Ottomans defeat
the Persians ending the Ottoman-Persian war.
Russians capture Reval and Nemirov.

3rd Fleet (6 galleys) outside Riga. Russian victory. Russians

0907/Stockholm: Russian II Galley Fleet (9 galleys) attacks
the Swede 2nd Fleet which sailed from Memel and the Stockholm port defenses
(11 ships, 3 defense). Swede victory. Swedes lost 1 ship. Russians
lost 2 galleys and retreat to Riga.
Narva: Russian COSSACKS (3 cossacks) make a spoiling attack
on the Swedish forces stationed at Narva. The Swedes are commanded
by Schlippenbach with the 4th Dragoons, 10th and 11th Guard, and 4th and
6th Infantry Brigades (2 dragoons, 12 guards, 12 infantry). Swede victory.
Russians lost 2 cossacks. Swedes had no losses.
1711: Shevrementev commanding the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 8th
Cavalry (16 cavalry) march south to intercept King Charles. Tzar Peter
commanding the 5th Guards, 4th and 10th Infantry and the Polesian Cavalry
(4 feudal cavalry, 5 guards, 11 infantry) march out of Livonia to join the
battle. The Swedes under King Charles, commanding the 1st, 3rd, 4th
and 7th Guard Brigades (17 guards) march out Pskov to Novgorod. Russian
victory. Russians lost 5 infantry. Swedes lost 4 guards and
retreat to 1710.
Vilna: The Prussians executing a two prong attack strike
the capital of Lithuania. The Prussian army crosses the Njemen River
at Kovno. After securing the city, the Prussians continue their march
towards Vilna. Frederich commanding the 2nd and 3rd Guards and 15th
Infantry Brigades (12 guards, 6 infantry) attacks from the northwest. Beckendorf
commanding the 4th Guard Brigades (6 guards) attacks from the west. Vilna
is defended by the Russian 11th Infantry Brigade (3 infantry). Prussians
take no losses. Russians eliminated.
Galatz: Prussian General Anhault commanding the 1st Cavalry,
2nd, 12th and 14th Infantry Brigades (3 cavalry, 16 infantry) and the
Saxons under General Flemming commanding the 1st and 2nd Cavalry and 2nd

lands marching on the fortress of Galatz. The Ottoman 7th Janissaries

0522/Temesvar: Ottoman relief force, Mehmed commanding the
I, II Anatolian Cavalry, Rumelian Cavalry, 4th Janissaries, and 18th and
19th Infantry Brigades (12 feudal cavalry, 6 janissaries, 12 turk infantry)
marches through 0522 to Peterwardein. At 0522 the Austrian 1st Infantry
(1 infantry) is set to hold the Ottomans in Temesvar. Battle is an
Ottoman victory. Austrians eliminated and the Ottomans continue their
march with no losses.

Peterwardein: Ottoman relief force under Mehmed fails to

Brigades (8 spahis, 9 janissaries, 19 turk infantry) which marches out of
the fortress which has had its defenses reduced due to the long siege by

holding the bridgehead at Kovno which is reinforced by Frederich and Beckendorf

to Vilna.
Vilna: The Russians launch an all out assault on Vilna, encircling
the city in order to completely cut-off the Prussians. Croy's advance
is halted at Kovno, however his position blocks any Prussian retreat through
hex 1212. Tzar Peter marches from the north commanding the 5th Guards
and 9th Infantry (5 guards, 6 infantry), Stienau marches from the north-east
commanding the 5th and 7th Cavalry (8 cavalry), and I through V cossacks (5
cossacks) come up from various southern positions (through 1213, 1314 and
1413). The Prussian army under the command of Frederich and Beckendorf
consisting of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Guards, and 7th and 15th Infantry Brigades
(15 guards, 8 infantry) march west towards the Njemen River at Kovno. Russian
victory. Russians lost 1 cavalry, 3 guards and 5 infantry. Prussians
lost 3 guards and 5 infantry. Prussians cannot retreat and the army
must surrender. Frederich and Beckendorf are captured.
Prussia is forced to surrender to Russia.
