Information Technology Syllabus - Extract from CXC.org

This page will provide you with a link to the CSEC and CAPE syllabus. I know that many of you understand the importance of a syllabus. For those of you that do not understand download it and read it. You will quickly realise that it is a fundemental instrument for your learning no matter what subject area you are studying. It can be your guide as to what is required of you, how far along and you are, why the subject is being though.

According to Parke and Harris a syllabus has three major purpose; A contract, A permanent record and a learning tool

As a Contract the syllabus it gives clear description details of what is ecpected of you and the teachers. It also let you know what is to happen during the semester and at what time thimgs should be done. It informs you of the policies such as; late policies, attendance, grading policies etc.

Next, as a permanent record it gives student a description of the course content, assessment procedures and course objectives. knowing the course content call allow you to read ahead.

The syllabus is organised under eight main sections.                            

1.    Fundamentals of Hardware and Software

2.    Problem-Solving and Program Design       

3.    Program Implementation                                                                         

4.    Applications and Implications of Information and Communications Technology

5.    Information Processing

6.    Wordprocessing, Presentation and Web Page Design

7.    Spreadsheets

8.    Database Management
