A Fisher's State of Mind

Once, I loved somebody. This girl was such a beauty.
You might be surprised to hear it, but, surely, I, too, was beloved.
Then, one day we met this being that gave us this kind of feeling:
That he would harpoon us down with a fool's flowery frown.

His hair was strings of springs, his body chubbier than a typical king's.
Still, his famous legs were slim, so he couldn't touch the basketball rim.
When he fell down, he couldn't get up, so decided to catch a mouse with a cup.
That's why everyone called him Lennie; we, being kind, called him Taddy Poley.

My name is George, and I loved somebody.
My dream was my life, and she was my lucky star.
Then I had a nightmare, of a world underwater.
Lennie with a chin in his hand, and a net hooked in his shoes.
