| Here we are less than two weeks away from an election, so I suppose I should talk about how I'm going to vote. In the Florida Governor's race, since Reno is gone (Ding Dong the witch is dead!) I am once again at a loss to discover the lesser of two evils. I don't like voting for the lesser of two evils anyway, I'd prefer to vote FOR someone, as opposed to AGAINST someone. Politically speaking both Jeb Bush and Bill McBride are centrists and really do not differ that much. I must confess that Jeb has one edge over McBride in my mind, because he's the devil I know. He also has the advantage of being opposed to a State Income Tax, which every Democrat Governor of Florida has favored, and McBride is not different. You may like the idea of paying more taxes, so go for McBride if you believe that you aren't robbed by the government enough. But I have found that I'm not comfortable voting for one candidate merely because I like the other candidate less. That is how the Republican/Democrat party remains in office, by giving us a non-choice. And so, now that the horrendous choice of Janet Reno has been removed, I'm considering a write in NOTA vote (None Of The Above.) Lost in this Governor's Race are a couple of even more important things to consider as we Floridians go to the polls. First, remember what our activist Supreme Court did in 2000, and what the activist Supreme Court in New Jersey did this year. We have a chance this year to change the make up of our state supreme court. I'm going to be sure to vote NO on retaining any Supreme Court Judge. They are no longer qualified to sit on the bench, in my opinion. Three of them are up for a vote for retention this year. If enough of us vote NO, they're out and whoever is Governor can put three better ones in. There are also 10 proposed Florida Constitutional Amendments (there were 11 but one was taken off the ballot by court order.) My default vote for Constitutional Amendments is "NO", but this year there are a couple of interesting ones which may get a "YES" from me. Amendment 1 would allow the Death Penalty by any method approved by the United States Constitution. We passed this one in 1998, but our activist Florida Supreme Court struck it down because it said "cruel OR unusual" punishment, instead of "cruel AND unusual" (This is what you get when you allow lawyers to write laws.) Amendment 2 would require the State Legislature to provide the financial cost of any future amendment. YES!!! Those liberal nuts in South Florida keep proposing amendments that gravely effect the economy here in North Florida...this one will help put a stop to that! If it passes, we'll be able to see how much any future amendments will cost us. I'm pretty much opposed to all the other amendments and of particular note is this one: Amendment 10 - the Pregnant Pig Amendment. This one is obviously proposed by the animal rights nuts, and someone who has never even set foot on a farm, much less depended on farming for a living. If passed, the normal segregation of a pregnant pig which happens all the time on a pig farm would be considered an illegal cruelty to animals. How about letting pig farmers decide what is good for their pigs?! It is yet one more example of our economy here in North Florida being attacked by the liberal nuts in South Florida...I'll be looking for this one especially to go down in flames. |
