| Continue south down the path outside the zoo. Walk past the sketch artists (have your portrait done!), but before you leave the park, head back west, crossing the north/south street that all the horse carriages come down to leave the park. Before you reach 59th Street, you'll see a set of steps going down. |

| This is the Pond: here you'll se a lawn frequented by bikini-clad sunbathers; a peaceful lake with ducks surrounded by flower beds, water reeds, and towering trees; and the picturesque arched Gapstow stone bridge in the distance. Sit on a bench, or on the grass, with an ice tea or cold water from a vendor, here you can relax, people watch, listen to a musician -- or soak in the rays in your bathing suit! |

| Once you're rested, cross 5th Avenue, you'll see the CBS studio and the Apple Retail Store with its gigantic glass cube and apple logo. Next to that lies FAO Schwarz, toy store extraordinaire. Several years ago, FAO almost closed this outlet, if you can imagine that happening to a New York institution that's been around since 1870. Peruse the huge stuffed animal collection that includes a towering dragon, African elephants, gigantic pink dogs, bears of every size (of course), you name it. See the jelly bean toy soldiers, the Tom Hanks "Big" keyboard, and the Lego Harry Potter figures (life size). If you don't have a kid to take here, the kid in you will still appeciate it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
