I have liscensed Bear Guides in Nome and Shishmaref. There are so many bears in the Nome area that they have become a nuisance and they are desimating the moose population so the Fish and Game has at times doubled the season. Depending on your trip plans when and were the bears are at the time you plan to visit will determine where you hunt. Archery is another exciting way to hunt these spectacular animals and the hide, meat, claws and head are all worth keeping. You can save considerable money by having the Shishmaref Tannery cure and tan your bear hide. |

If you decide you want to harvest a bear you need to email me as soon as possible. The more time in advance and flexable your schedule the better chance you have of having a successfull hunt. |

The polar bears shown below are spectacular animals to watch. They are not in Shishmaref as much as they used to be due to weather changes but can be seen at times. I do recomend buying finished products made by the natives here such as claw necklaces. Also a Polar Bear ruff for your jacket hood is very nice. The bears migrate with the ice pack to be close to thier main food source, seals. If you really want to see Polar Bears you need to go when they are present not when you have time to go. You will spend money and time going but you can miss them by 24 hours to several months. The summer of 2002 we had people come from as far as Japan and France because there were so many bears. |
