Anyway, I've read most of your articles and stuff that you have posted and stuff but I was wondering what advice you had for a new comer such as myself. -p |
| My response: My standard advice for newcomers is to first decide whether your dark eldar army will be mostly skimmer-based or ground-based. This decision will determine which models you purchase initially as you build your army. You are best off sorting this out first so that you do not acquire models that you never use. The skimmer-based army is undoubtedly the most mobile and most lethal in the right hands. The only down side is the cost for all the Raiders. A mostly ground-based army can also be very effective. However, it requires a different composition of forces to be successful. Let me know which type of army you would like to build and I can give you more specific advice. |

My response: I have a few suggestions for your army that should help with those pesky space marines. Consider using a haemonculus-themed army. Add a large squad or two of grotesques. Don't buy the expensive metal models but convert some from the plastic warrior sprue. There is a section on my website about doing this. The grotesques can act as a living wall to screen your warrior squads from bolter fire. Line them up base to base in front of your warriors and the space marines won't be able to hurt either unit with shooting. Meanwhile your grotesques and warriors can advance en masse while firing thier splinter weapons. Note: Make sure that these warrior squads are fairly large (15+ models), have full weapons upgrades (2 splinter cannons, 2 blasters) and a sybarite with agonizer/pistol. In addition to the grotesques I would add one or two Talos. They are excellent marine killers and very durable. If money is tight, then build your own conversions from scratch using plastic card, cardboard, wood, etc. The Talos can advance behind your grotesques and warriors and be ready to counter-assault when the marines assault your lines. Finally, add some haemonculi to lead your army. Equip them with destructors, which are a S4 flamer template weapon that only allows marines armor saves about half the time. If you really want to be nasty, then add Urien Rakarth, the chief haemonculus, to your army. He is pricey at 100 points, but his destructor is awsome! It is a flamer template weapon that automatically hits AND wounds any models that it touches. Half the time the marines will not even get an armor save. You could wipe out an entire squad with a single shot! Hopefully, this will give you some ideas. Don't be put off by the early space marine victories. Once you army is properly configured and equipped you should be able compile a winning record against space marines :) |
