Update on 9-18-02 at 10:45 PM
Emma is CURRENTLY doing much better than she has been the last few days.  Yesterday a steroid treatment was started in an effort to help ween her off of the ventilator.  That did not work out to well today as her blood pressure was increased by the 'roids.  So, they were discontinued.  HOWEVER...little Miss Emma, under the loving guidance of her watchful angels in the NICU at Lancaster General's Women and Babies Hospital, started to improve greatly.

Under the watchful eye of Nurse Jen, RN, (sounds like it could be a show, no?) Emma's oxygen concentration lowered to 45% (for those of you who have forgotten their basic science, we as humans breath an atmosphere that contains 21% oxygen - so, she was pretty juiced up at 100%.)  Her blood oxygen saturation (sat.) was riding in the mid 90's percentile.  Really good...  Mom and dad are planning on a nice restful sleep tongiht, as the past couple of days (since Thursday 9-12-02) have basically just
sucked!!!!.

That's all for now.

Dan and Jeannine (oh, Emma TOO!)

PS:  Nurse Jen is getting married in 24 days.  Congratulations!
The rest of the "thank you's" for the great nurses and staff at LGHWB: (in no particular order)

Katie - for driving out to the main hospital to pick up meds when the courier had just left at 7PM and the next courrier would not be for another 2 hours.  Go figure - there is only a pharmacist on duty from 9-5 Monday to Friday.  Why would you need one any other time at a Women's and Babies Hospital?

Ellsie - for actually making it through the hellish shift September 12/13 where Emma seemed hell bent on doing everything possible to make her own life difficult.

Cathy - The Respirartory Therapist who was walking out almost in tears with us (we were almost crying too) Monday night (9-16) because Emma was again being just a bit, shall we say, difficult?  I believe her quote (Cathy's, not Emma's) was, "I am going to her high school graduation, and that's that!"  Consider yourself officially invited...  Anyone who stops in on their day off to see how she is doing definitely rates big time!

Lori - The Respiratory Therapist who helped Emma through September12/13.

Chris - The poor charge nurse on 9-12 when Emma crashed.

Cindy - Another nurse who is so so supportive of us and obviously attached to, and loves, Emma.

Carol - She got Emma through 9-16 when Emma wanted to raise a bit of havoc.

Mary, Janice, Michelle, Kim - More of the nursing staff who has helped us keep our "stuff" together, and kept Emma ticking.

Stacy - The nurse practitioner who gives us the straight scoop, hold the sugar please.

All of the other nurses and Respiratory Therapists who have been absolutely wonderful to be around...  Don't worry, I'll remember your names next time.  I'm just a bit tired here right now...so, just cut me a little slack this time...and next time I'm in, give me something to work with...throw me a bone....!

Say Good Night, Gracie...
