10-16-02 Pictures (and other stuff) from the Past Week
Well, good news first.  Emma hit 2 pounds Saturday night!  She's starting to get some beef on her now, filling out in her face and legs.  As so many of Jeannine's friends like to point out, she looks just like her, except for my "expressive" forehead.  So, today, Emma is hovering near the 1,000 gram mark, that's 2.2 pounds (no, not 2 pounds 2 ounces, 2.2 pounds...more like 2 pounds 3.2 ounces...see, themetric system is in use).

It seems that for Emma to truely accept a new nurse, she must be put through the ringer first.  Pam found out Friday night what the wrath of Emma can mean and bring.
Anyway, after all the fussing, cussing and other stuff, Emma calms down a bit once we are able to let her be. (She was tired of getting "rouched" around (it's a Dutchy term...what do I know, I'm from Jersey) Jeannine leaves at 1AM.  Dad leaves at 2:45AM (Jeannine got to the hospital around 1 PM, dad around 7pm).  Until all is said and done, we wake up Saturday morning, and, as it always seems to happen, Emma is doing just fine.  Now, Pam on the other hand waqas there from 7pm until 7am working the 12 back shift, all the while, Emma giving grief.  And as only Emma can do, she stabilizes.  Emma is the queen of the twelve hour torture session if she feels like delving it out.

Moving on, things are ok.  You will notice the cool pumpkin and devil hats Aunt Sue made.  We have also included the "1 Reilly Lane" street sign that adorns her abode.  (The note Emma left us on the monitor announcing her 2 pound status needs to be scanned, check it out at the next update.)

So, the big thank you of the week goes to Pam for taking care of Emma in her Friday night of fun and excitement, and as always, all the other great nurses, doctors and staff in the NICU.  Sorry to be brief.  I want to sleep tonight!  Hope you are all doing well.

Happy birthday to Matthew.  He turned 1 on Saturday (10-12).  He was a 2 pounder at 26 weeks and is doing great!
Here's the brief, don't really want to dwell on it, scoop.  Emma does not so good during the day.  Pam comes in, Emma does not so good for her, then does even worse.  Decides to pee her brains out, about 3 different times, over flowing the diaper.  This necessitates a bedding change each time.  No small feat when we are taling about opening up the isolette, moving Emma about while keeping tubes in place with her, etc, etc, etc...Needless to say, a tube chose not to cooperate.  Major air leak.  Let's retube her.  That didn't work too well either.  Anybody here ever been tubed?  Me neither, but it basically means you get a garden hose threaded down between your vocal cords and then jammed down to your lungs.  Get the picture?
