Reading Hebrew date on Israeli coins
- Hebrew is a language written from right to left.
- the Hebrew calendar uses letters instead of numbers.
- each letter has a numeral value.
- each place of number has a significance.
Therefore you have to read the Hebrew date from right to left.
Place of the date on coins
- Always on reverse of the coins.
In most of cases down under the coins value
How to calculate the year?
The Hebrew calendar is higher than the Gregorian calendar with 3760 years.
Therefore you have to diminish it from the written date (and than you get the Gregorian date)
Example:
5760 (the written year)
3760 -(the difference to Gregorian date)
2000 (Gregorian date)
Fix numbers(for the next 40 years)
5       4     3      2      1
___ ___ ___ ___ ___places (remainder! From right to left)
1= thousands place
2= hundreds "
3= hundreds  "
4= decimals "
5= singles "
Thousandes place
Placed on thousands figure. It means 5000
Some times this place is empty (it doesn't change the meaning written upside - 5000)
Hundreds place
Till this place on all the israeli coins you will find these
Signs (with or without the thousands sign  remember?)

Partial summary
Once learnt it you don't have to mentioned it, because it will rest in this way for the next 40 years.
The only problem now is to read decimals and singles
Decimals and singles
- Decimals place
5 4 3 2 1
___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- SINGLES PLACE
5      4      3     2      1
___ ___ ___ ___ ___
0 (zero) Does not exist, so you don't write anything.
Therefore the date is shorter with one sign ( for example 4 signs instead of five).

Special letters
Round decimal numbers (without single numbers)
Two special meanings:
Interested why? Ask me???
Visual similar letters (to avoid mistakes) be careful !!!
The sign " (iverted commas) placed between decimal and single numbers.
