Police name location of Hampshire assault

AMHERST - Police have now named the dorm where investigators believe an assault on a male Hampshire College student took place this past Friday, which left him severely beaten.

As previously speculated, Amherst police have confirmed the assault took place inside the Greenwich dorm on campus.

Investigators believe an 18-year-old Hampshire student was severely beaten after a man whom he used to date, 23-year-old Salvador Perez of Dumont, N.J., broke into his dorm room.

Perez pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with the intent to murder, domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Hadley on Friday.

Police say Perez entered the victim's dorm room as he slept. Once the victim woke up, Perez allegedly stuck him on the head several times with a metal flashlight and strangled him with a nylon cord until he was unconscious
