THE SURNAME:
I have found that the names SIEPER, SIEPERT and SIEBERT are not variants of one name in Germany but this may be a variation of some groups in the U.S. due to spelling variations; add Ziepert.
ROOTS:
The "Sieper" family name originated in Meissen , located in Germany. The "Sieper" family traces their ancestral roots back to Teutonic origin. From there, is a Heraldry and family crest
Sieper is a common name in our ancestors birthplace of Lennep and in nearby Remscheid, of Nordrhein Westfalen. Lennep is the home of Roentgen, the inventor of the x-ray. I found Sieperts of Berlin.
Our Frederick Sieper had a brother Albert Sieper pictured at right, who came in 1875 to NY and Passaic New Jersey. Aunt Dot says that Frederick family stayed at relative's when they first came. These are two photos of unnamed ancestors in Sieper roots Remscheid, center, and left, Klein roots Neustadt, Rhine-Pfalz Germany.
This story is told by E Lincoln, that Friedrich had a brother Alber who immigrated first to avoid conscription into the army, and my Aunt has an envelope with name of another unplaced (presumed) relative, Carl Sieper of Bremen, Germanie, and unidentified ancestors photographs from Remschied above.
.The numbering of Fredericks, i.e. I, II, III, etc are derived from a notation on the back of a 1940 calender, sent from relatives to my GGrandmother from Passaic NJ, noting that the newsboy depicted on it (bottom of this page) was of Frederick the V (Fifth) who lives now in NY City; a retired school teacher and WWII veteran.
Catherine Klein Sieper and mother Klein, circa 1870 at Hetzelstrasse 14, Neustadt, am Haardt, a.k.a an der Weinstrasse, Rheinland-Pfalz Germany. There appears to be the image of a little girl on the button of Catherine's lapel.

FREDERICK SIEPER IMMIGRANTS TO PASSAIC NJ
Freidrich II's granddaughter has his Natuarilization Papers See Fascimile This photograph c1886, is of the family of four, immigrants that came to America in 1877, Fred Sieper II, wife Catherine, Elizabeth Dorothy was 6 mos old, and Federick III was 6 yrs old. This Sieper Family moved in with relatives (Albert Sieper?) in Passaic NJ, 1877. Here was childhood home of the two children: Frederick Sieper III in Passaic Co NJ, and Elizabeth Dorothy Sieper (Newsome) Lincoln moving to MA and Schenectady New York.

NOTES for Frederick Sieper II:
LIFE IN PRUSSIA
while visiting Dot, she told me of some German prayers, her Granpa Sieper taught her. One was
Ich bin klein, mein Herz ist rein, soll niemand drin wohnen als Jesus allein.
"I am little my heart is pure, No one will live in it but Jesus alone.";
Dot gave more stories that fit with what I had been told by Mr Sieper in Passaic Cliffton. Then when I got home I looked up his cousins and contacted them. Now I found Frederick Sieper V, still living, and in NYC a retired School teacher and called him. I asked him what he remembered about his grandfather and in his answer, he said ["When we visited grandpa he had us trample down the grapes for wine making ...and he taught me a prayer in German, 'I am little my heart is clean, No one will live in it but Jesus alone.'"]; that same prayer aunt Dot's grandpa taught to say. .
A German tale
Gram'pa Sieper enjoyed telling Dot as she remembers it: My mother bakes Cakes, and she makes them hard, then she puts them in the closet, and this does not satisfy me.
The next time she does it, I'll roll up my bundle and I'll run away - I won't go far, just over the bridge, but I'll never come back again
Maybe grandpa was thinking of his mother Prussia when he said this, I'm not certain.
Before they got MARRIED while in Germany he went into the barn once at night and fashioned a box with holes for eyes and put long feathers out of the top, and draped himself in a dark colored blanket and waited for granma to come out as she would to the barn where he laid in wait for her, and that is how he liked to play jokes on Granma Sieper.
ELISE VISITS HOMELAND After being in the states for some time Frederick said to his wife "Caddle, you take the children go home for a few weeks" and handed her the tickets for passage for the three to go back again to visit their family and homeland while he stayed here and worked. This happened twice When Elizabeth was eight yrs old and later, at twelve. Their first trip is recorded from Cologne in Germans to America Passenger Lists Vol 52 Pg 115 on Ship named FULDA from ports Bremen to NY 9 Sep 1885 katie age 34 Freidrich age 13, Elise age 8. code GRAAVG USA.
OLD AGE:
When Grandma and Grandpa got older their daughter Lizzie's husband Grey Lincoln said "Come live with us" in Rotterdam Jct NY, so they moved to Rotterdam Jct and that's how my Grandmother and her sister Dot got to know them and have the old photos. Some stories of the Sieper family.
The sketch at right was drawn by my brother, William Van Tassel, from a photograph.
Another story is that when Elizabeth got married her mother had bought a large silver laded for a wedding gift. When it came time to unwrap presents, grandpa took the package upstairs and switched Grandmas new an old beat up ladel from the kitchen with grandmas new one and this was what Lizzie got as her weddng present instead. Liz's daughter still has it in her kitchen today. She remembers he wore thick gray socks. He used a cane and each night about 7:30 he would pound on the floor with tthe cane; signal for me to come to him. I'ld repeat the German prayers he taught me ending with him saying the lords prayer in German which I never learned. He insisted I have a slate before I went to school ( I still have it). My mother had to go many places to find slate pencils. He wanted me to learn German script which I never mastered but I did know my A, B, C's early and could print them."
Granpa and Grandma, Elizabeth and Grey Lincoln are all buried side by side in the Woestina Reformed Church Cemetery in Rotterdam Jct. NY

Notes for Fred Sieper III. It is told that he wanted his wife to go to CA but she refused so he left his family and kids with another lady to Pasedena California for a some years but came back and reunited with wife and family, however much Emily was hurt took him back, but his grand-nephew Warren Devries, who remembered the day he came back, said he thinks she never forgave him and, that she had to do washing and work hard to make ends meet. My aunt Dot says that when her mother Lizzie, (his sister) got the letter he died she threw it in the fireplace and never said a thing about it. Because daughter Eliz Sieper Lincoln buried her parents she recieved most of their pictures from Germany, etc, it appears. W Devries received some posessions of Fred IV from Mildred Freedman, because he was the only one who attended the funeral. He only is noted to have visited his sister in Schenectady once, when his father or mother died in 20s.

Dear Dorothy:
I can only slightly imagine how you are feeling and thinking today. Of all life's good gifts you have lost the best --- your mother's love --- save one, the love of God.
How thankful now we can be for the experience as well as for the revelation that nothing -- nothing can seperate us from the love of God which is in our saviour.
And if we believe what we profess let us not feel sorry for your mother as so many quite naturally will. She lived a life of self-giving love. She was loved for it by those who know her best. To us she became great through service, and there can never be another to take her place; it was too large. But this is not her immortality, thank God. Our remembrance of her is all too meager and unworthy. She died with peace in her heart---remember her word, as she tightly held my hand? "I know so!---and she has entered into the rest that remaineth for the children of God.
"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
-- Revelation 14:13.
Yes, your dear mother has left us. How we shall miss "aunt Lizzie" as we all affectionately called her. I for one shall not find life the same without her, but shall always be a better man for having known her. God grant that we may have some portion of her spirit --- her essential honesty, her zest for all of living, her fortitude under fire, her patience in trial, and her devotion to the welfare of others.
I shall not say these things on Tuesday. They are too personal, and the memory of them is too precious. almost sacred. But I wanted to tell you how I feel aboutthe temporary loss of my friend. God bless you, Dorothy. and give you faith and courage.
Your friend sincerely,
[signed]

Just a little of my life walk
I was born in North Adams Mass Mar 3rd 1900. My Dad was also born in North Adams just about 5 blocks away. My Mom was born in Adams, Mass. My brother Curtis was born in Blackton Mass. In 1907 we rented a house right on the Erie Canal at Rotterdam Jct. NY. They used to change the mules or horses right in front of our house. My Mom died Feb 29th 1912. She was buried on my 12th birthday. My brother and I were sent to live with fathers cousin and mother. Wasn't long after, her mother became real sick. Their Doctor had a lady come to care for her by name Mrs. Newsome. Mrs Newsome was a widow with two children. Boy name Richard jr and girl Jessie. Mrs Newsome was so kind to me as I missed my Mom so much. After Aunt Emily death we were placed in care of Mrs Newsome home. She sure was a real good Mom to us. She was answeed prayer. My Dad married Mrs Newsome in 1913. Then we moved back to Rotterdam Jct as my Dad was a railroad man. We were a real happy family together. Then I was told we were going to have a new baby. That was joy of my life. I had to quit school in 1914 as my Mom had to help run house. Our baby sister was born June .

Frank M Ingalls photographer studio. her son and Grey's brother CLAUDE B LINCOLN Sent letters (below) from Greenfield, Mass. alias Chas B Lawrence.
These were Grey incoln's and I would like to think they would be of his brother Claude and /or father and family yet there are no records or real clues who they are but that they were his posessions being few in such family photos.
Letters: Claude B to brother Grey C Lincoln.
Dear Grey,
Probably you will be suprised to hear from your brother, but want you to know, that in my wanderings around this old world I constantly think of you.
Am awefully glad you are so happily settled in life. Believe me this kicking around everywhere is not a happy life. but I don't suppose I shall ever settle down again.
I have had the devils own luck since I last wrote you. Broke both my legs in a fall staging and put in 13 weeks in the hospital with pneumonia. It certainly ate up what I had saved.
Have to ask you Grey, but know you will send it and will return it to you out of my first pay.
So right can you send me 15 dollars so I recieve it by Friday the 16th. I have an elegant job in Flushing, Long Island and cannot get there unless you can lone me the mony. Do this for me Grey as it will be a God-send to me. and allow me to once more get on my feet.
Give my regards to my unseen family. Tell them they have an uncle Claude kicking around the globe who would like to see them, and maybe I will before the summer is over.
Send it so I can get it Friday as I wont to leave for Flushing on Saturday.
Your Brother,
Claude B. Lincoln

Dear Kid;-
Your very welcome letter was recieved O.K. and I can assue you I was mighty glad to again hear fom you.
Will probably leave here soon as I find I cannot content myself any where very long.
I Imagine that I have a chronic case of wanderlust. Oh well! I may settle down some time but I don't know. I will try and get to Rotterdam soon as I am anxious to see you all again, and meet my new sister-in-law. Am very glad you are so prosperous I have certainly seen some of this old globe since 1910 and am getting a little tired of living in a trunk and suit cases.
It may be that I will meet some girl who will cause me to forget Jeanie, but I doubt it.
I know Grey that she was entirely unworthy of my love, but we cannot (God; I wish we could) control our feelings but will hope that time - the great healer" will help me to remember her with only kind feelings. I can only pray that the man she left Schenectady with never crosses my my path for I have sworn to kill him out right.
You ask why I did not let you know my whereabouts, well I wanted to go away some where alone. I thought that travel would help me forget, and I figured that I would not let anyone know where I was, for Jeanie kept sending letters to me through my relatives and I wanted to stop that, as it only constantly kept the old heart aching. Now don't think I am a pessimist Grey, for I am not. am simply the same old boy only a more serious one.
Give my regards to Lizzie and tel her that her "black sheep" brother is glad she has made one member of our family happy.
Am going to College Point, Long Island, for the week end and Labor day. I have a very dear and good friend there who I imagine would be very glad to become Mrs CBL and maybe she will. She is of German descent and is jolly fine pal. Have known her and have corespondence with her for the last 10 years.
Is she that was Marie Truax still in Rotterdam. She as you know used to like me pretty well. a good kid all right.
Well, it is almost 1:30 P.M. and as I must get some rest will have to bring this to a close soon.
Will surely try and see you soon old top, and will have a good long conversation then. Write soon to your lonesome brother.
Claude
