Jay's '69 1/2 Maverick
Fresh from the paint shop
This would be Maverick #2 if you were to ask. He had a '71 that I drove for a short time durring my senior year at HS. He managed to total the '71 for all i can figure.."showboating" his keen driving skills. But that's another story and another car. This one here was 1st a MACCO paintjob but he got T-boned in the school parkming lot and viola! what you see here is the 2nd paintjob done by a family friend. At this time the Comet hoodscoop and black racing stripes were added as well as a blacked out taillamp panel. But this is a true 69 1/2 Maverick. I has the thin keyless column, small tranny tunnel, ignition key in the dash (on the tray), the underdash tray IS metal (not plastic) and the rear seat, rear inside panels, and gas tank are one-onlys. Makes it a real unique car. Originally it was a 6cyl automatic car. The wrecked '71 (which was upgraded aswell) donated the '75 Comet 5-lug front disc brakes and rear end as well as whatever else was salvagable. Still has a C4 auto but for a V8 now. More will certainly be done to the car as time progresses, just have to let the, monies build back up!
Out with the old and in with the new! The old high-mile '76 302 was ousted for a fresh 302 I was building him in Dec 2001. Also fixed a really leaky windshield too!
Here's the new 302 I built him in Dec of 2001. All the machine work was done by Jim at Lou's Machine here in town. It's a '66 289 block bored .030 and fitted with Badger Flattops. The .010/.010 crank and resized rods are '68 302 units. The cam is a PAW SSI  #11326 and is DEFINATELY an impressive cam!! Doubble roller timing chain and Melling HV oil pump with a ARP moly drive rod to turn it. The heads are '68 (63cc I think) fitted with SS 351W valves. With these heads and pistons, it about 9.1:1 C/R. It's got Comp Cams roller tip rockers to finish it up. On top is a stock 289 4V cast iron intake with a Holley 650cfm 4160 carb. Log style exh manifolds and dual 2" exh with 2 chamber Flowmasters, at the present, but headers and 2.25" exh are in the works.
Right now it puts out approx.263hp with gruntloads of torque and will be right about 300hp when headders, new exh, and a nicer ignition system are added.
The interior is basically stock appearing with a few custom touches like a Grant wheel, Auto Gauge gauges and cloth inserted seats.
I DO have more pics (need to scan them) so keep posted for future updates!
