Anastacia's first chat Online! Digital Dish Diva says: Welcome to MSN Live! Tonight we are proud to welcome our musical guest, Anastacia, whose new CD "Not That Kind" is due in stores on June 13. Welcome, Anastacia! Great to have you here! I understand this is your first time as a guest in an online event. Anastacia says: Yeah. First chat ever. Digital Dish Diva says: Cool! Well, thanks for choosing MSN Live. I know your first single is "I'm Outta Love." It's doing fabulous on the charts. Did you expect this amount of success with your first single? Anastacia says: This is my first anything. Of course you hope to gain exposure and gain a liking from your public. I didn't have any planned expectations, if it wouldn't have happened I wouldn't have been devastated or depressed. When you start with nothing even if it's a flop, you just end up with nothing. Angelbaby askes: Hex Hector did a slamming job on remixing your song. Did you work with him because you felt comfortable with him since you guys knew each other? Anastacia says: Actually I thought that he would probably do the song complete justice for the club scene and I was right. There are so many good mixers out there I'm sure it would have done well with other people, but I was quite happy to use Hex. lyndsay says: Have you been on MTV yet? Anastacia says: The video hasn't aired on MTV yet. They're waiting a bit longer for American radio to play more. But it's all over Europe. It's on a high rotation there. I even get noticed on the streets there. People know me from my tattoo. I have been on MTV several times, over the past 10 years trying to get my little foot in the door there. Digital Dish Diva says: Let's talk about that tattoo. For those who haven't seen it, can you tell us about it? Anastacia says: I did not get this tattoo for this record, I got this tattoo way before I thought I'd get the chance to sing for anybody. I've always wanted to get a tattoo. I waited until I felt I was old enough, knowing it's permanent. My mother bought it for me for Christmas and we were in Portland OR and some biker guy made it for me and I chose the tattoo on my back which is an Egyptian Ankh, which means eternal life and I'm more of a powerful female. It stands for the fallopian tubes, and uterus, the cross was shaped interesting. I also have a tattoo above that that says "forever" so the story on my back pretty much says "life forever." Sparkles askes: Did you collaborate with anyone on your new CD? Anastacia says: Actually I worked with a few different producers, so there was collaboration there. I worked with producers who did songs for like Whitney, 'NSYNC, and Celine. I also did some work with Sam Watters from Color Me Badd. Also Travon Botts. I was really really inspired working with all these producers, and to me the fact that they were successful meant nothing, but they were so humble and excited to work and discover new untainted ground, which is completely where I went. I think it takes more than one person to create beauty, so it was a collaboration of all of us. Digital Dish Diva says: Which artists do you admire for their music? Who do you look to in the Music Business? Anastacia says: You know, I actually don't look to people in the music business but I do look at artists for different reasons such artists are Sting, Tori Amos, Santana, Bjork, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Barbara Streisand. So, you can see I don't flock to a particular type of music but it's the art of music that I find fascinating. Sunshiney says: Hi Anastacia! I saw the picture of you and Elton John on your website. What was it like to meet him? Anastacia says: Sunshiney, I always thought that Elton was one of the most individual artists out there. I was so not disappointed when meeting me he was kind, flamboyant, honest, and real. He turned around and introduced me to his lover. I have always wanted to meet him. I had fantasies in my mind where I would think of what I wanted to tell him, and when I met him before I was able to tell him that I was his biggest fan, he told me he was my biggest fan! (laughs) It was just a pleasure to meet him. I had just come out of the hospital because I had a herniated disk and I had to go to the Grammys so I was in a neck brace the night before but I knew I was going to meet Elton so I was like "Just give me pain killers." I was so excited when I met him. I look very happy in that photo, I didn't feel any pain for that half hour. Blueyedsoul askes: Girl, I can't stop playing "I'm Outta' Love." What are the plans for the next single? Anastacia says: Blueyedsoul, if you are familiar with the cut on MTV called "Not That Kind" I think it represents how I feel and the essence of how I sing. I don't think you'll be disappointed with that song either. Swissboy26 askes: Which artist would be a dream come true to work with? Anastacia says: You guys have enough ink? (laughs) There's so many. I think any artist would be a dream, but it would fulfill a dream to be on the stage with Michael Jackson. And of course I would also love to sing with Tina Turner, but knowing how things go when I finally make a dent in this business, she'll have retired and I'll have to do what Natalie Cole did. krusty askes: Hi Anastacia! Your voice is remarkable. What word would you use to describe it? Anastacia says: Big. Because usually I would use words like big, strong powerful. Once someone asked me three words that best describe me and I said "Loud, Louder, and Loudest." So, that's a hard question for one word with my Sybil mentality. lyric askes: Did you write "Not That Kind" specifically for "The Cut"? Anastacia says: Lyric, no, I wrote it trying to get a deal years before. And everyone looked at me and said "Duh, that's a dumb song" until I was able to perform it live and everyone loved it. I thought it was funny that I sent it to them and they thought it wasn't good. DK_COCO says: Your album releases on June 13. What are you doing on that day? Anastacia says: The day before, I'm flying to France for a big showcase. I'll probably be jet-lagged. They are pretty much releasing my record that day worldwide, which doesn't happen very often. Digital Dish Diva says: Will you be touring to support this album? Anastacia says: Absolutely. All over. At this point they're seeing which tours I'll fit in. They are working so hard for me. They just got me the national Twix commercial. They wanted to feature and up and coming artist so they picked me. It's pretty close to worldwide, it will be in Germany, Canada and the U.S. fuschia says: Did you get a carload of Twix to take home? Anastacia says: Girl, I had to eat like 50 million of them and I love them, so I didn't spit any out. So, I was so high on sugar after that. They said free Twix for the rest of my contract, which is good because both me and my manager both love them. Stacia askes: How did you get your name? Mine is from my mom's friend in high school. Anastacia says: Well your name rocks, girlfriend! I have a sister that is older and my mother heard about Anastasia Romanov first and then heard it again as the name of Cinderella's stepsister. I have two siblings with normal names--Shawn, Brian and then me with the long name. (laughs) noodles says: Did Michael Jackson really call you at home? What was he like? Did you know it was him or did he have to say "Hi, it's Michael Jackson." Anastacia says: I knew Michael Jackson was calling. It stemmed from when I was on "The Cut" on MTV. MJJ is Michael Jackson's label. We were trying to schedule a meeting, but he had a really busy schedule so he decided to call me. He wanted to have an intimate private conversation and the affirmations about by my music and me was so amazing to me. It was so professional and I had to keep my focus. I ended up choosing Epic because that's what he was on and it did well for him. Angelbaby askes: Do you still drink tea with honey while in the studio? Anastacia says: Actually, sometimes, I don't do it every day, but if I feel a little under the weather, tired, or allergies it's something I do to moisten my cords. I don't like to be around smoke and I don't drink, I follow the singer's regimen of staying in at night but sometimes I'll hang. Digital Dish Diva says: Anastacia, this has been such a pleasure having you as our guest on MSN Live. I know you need to run to rehearsal. Anastacia says: I want to extend a complete thank you for each and every person that has taken time out. I'm sorry if I couldn't answer all the questions. This is my first but definitely not my last chat. I want to deliver thank yous for supporting my album. You guys rock! Thank you! |
